Welcome one and all to Happy Friday! In previous communities I've been involved in it has been a popular tradition among community members to wish everyone a Happy Friday. It's a time folks can share what they've been playing lately, weekend plans....whatever they like actually. I've been busy this week with a number of things including helping to get the new community up and running so this post comes a little later than usual. Normally I'll try to get this post out early enough so that even our members in the far east and "down under" can read the post while it is still Friday.
My gaming has been limited considerably with everything going on lately. I'm still working on Far Cry and hopefully soon I can get back to that. I think I'm getting close to the end. I've managed to reach the outskirts of the compound after driving like a maniac and running like crazy to get away from those rocket launching cyborg guys. I just need to sneak my way into the compound now. With the nature of the save game situation in this game I think I'm in for lot's of reloads of this level. If you have a high end system it's definitely a great game.
It's been a busy week gang, time to break open the champagne in salute to the new community and to celebrate the weekend!
Party on gang. :shades:

Happy Friday :D:

As usual, it's more homework, reports and PowerPoint presentations for me this week-end. I won't be going out much again. I'll try to finish my resume, it's not exactly long to do...

As far as gaming goes it's the NWN expansions, some UT2004 and some old school SNES and PS1 Castlevania. I want to get more intro Sacred but I'd rather finish the NWN expansions first.

Well, I'm working tomorrow, so no gaming for me. :(: I'm going shopping on Sunday, though. I'm looking for Syberia II.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy Friday!

As usual, it's more homework, reports and PowerPoint presentations for me this week-end.

Dito for me. Lots of studying and tasks have been keeping me awfully busy lately. I've also been spending more time working on my photography lately. My parents recently bought a digital camera, and that's quickly becoming my new favorite toy. :): You can see some of the results on my DeviantArt account (http://geert1845.deviantart.com/). </shameles plug>

As far as actual gaming goes I've been playing a little KOTOR, but that's about it for me. I haven't bought a new game since december. I might be losing my touch. O well, at least my wallet is starting to like me again.

End of the year crunch is happening, so not as happy a Friday as I would hope. No new movies either :(

Well, the lady and I are heading to a flick tonight. Not too sure what, we haven't checked the listings yet.

other than that, nothing at written in stone. Probably will play some Syberia II, and Ninja Gaiden and/or BG:DAII on the 'box.

Have a great weekend friends and foes!

I'd bought BF1942 & the RtR expansion last week. So hopefully I'll actually have a spare minute to start it up long enough to at lest see the title screen.

I'll be on and off the forums all weekend, in case anyone has any questions or problems.

It's about insulation-hanging time at the new house I'm working on. Still haven't decided if I'm going to sell it when I'm done, keep it as a rental, or just keep it as a place to kick back, have a bonfire and some beers with friends. Probably the latter, but who know.

Yesser.... hanging insulation is always fun.

Question.... you ever handle a lot of fiberglass insulation and wash those cloths with your other cloths ??

Gives a whole new unpleasent meaning to the medical term "jock-itch". :scared2:

no, but whenever we do any remodeling/painting and stuff like that, I wear my old raggy clothes to do the job heh. And yes, I wash them seperately from any clean clothes

Happy Friday! Currently playing Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow on Xbox - and for some reason that I can't put my finger on, I'm not enjoying it as much as the first one. I hear the multiplayer is fun but I've been too lazy to set up a wireless connection to enable Xbox live.

Saturday night we're bringing in a baby sitter for the first time ever and going out to dinner at a new japanese restaurant that opened up. I asked my wife how much we are paying the sitter and she said $10 per hour. I didn't realize that babysitting had become an ok gig. Then again if she has to watch my little monsters for a couple of hours she probably deserves even more.

TGIF!!!!

This week has been up and down. The move has been awesome. Thanks to the 3D staff, Gaim, and Mr. N for getting this together.

On a personal note, it's just been a down week for me. Recovery from foot surgery has been more difficult than I expected and has me bummed. I picked up Freedom Fighters for a bargain price and have gotten interested in it so it's the game de jour for me. I'm looking forward to a chance to relax this weekend.

Have a great weekend!!

For the first time in what seems like ages, I don't have to do any extra work this weekend. So other than actually sleeping in for once and watching the opening round of the NBA playoffs between my Houston Rockets and their evil nemisis the Lakers with a few buds at my favorite local sports bar / pub, I plan to keep trying to catch-up on a loooooooooong list of SP PC action titles missed over the past few years - before returning to classic style adventures, RPGs and hybrids full time.

So far in just the last month or so I have finished Serious Sam: The First Encounter, KISS: Psycho Circus, Return To Castle Wolfenstein GOTY, I Was An Atomic Mutant, American McGee's Alice, Clive Barker's Undying and Project Eden. Also started Max Payne 1 last night and then have the sequel waiting to play along with a slew of others like Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, NOLF 2, SoF 2, Mafia, GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, MoH: Allied Assault, StarWars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy and Unreal 2.

Will wait for a while before diving into even newer PC action games like Far Cry, Painkiller, etc. because I also have to catch-up on a few major CRPGs, RPG hybrids and a couple of excellent new adventures sitting here gathering dust. By then I hope that Doom 3, H-L 2, STALKER and Thief 3 are all out, well reviewed and ready to begin a whole new stack of gaming goodness, so I can binge on some more shooters - back to back to back.

Cheers, Terry

I gotta play some old games too, I have Alice to beat sometime and Freedom Force. I'm alsop waiting for a Morrowind mod to come out so I can play that, www.wizards-islands.com

I'll probably just end up playing the Lineage 2 beta all weekend.

Both Gothic 1 & 2 are also sitting right here waiting to be played along with Arx Fatalis, Morrowind GOTY, NWN Gold + HoU EP, Lionheart, Greyhawk / ToEE, Deus Ex: IW and KOTOR.

Oh and why wait until Monday for my older PC action game report?

1. Serious Sam: The First Encounter - Super fun, fast old style FPS action but on huge colorful maps with hordes of very cool enemies to mow down with an array of nifty weapons. I paid a whopping $1.99 (that is NOT a typo) for the jewel case version at my local Gamestop and enjoyed the fragging from end to end.

2. KISS: Psycho Circus - Simple and linear with some cool monsters and the first to use a horde technology that can get a bit hectic if you don't act fast. It also of course has the KISS theme if you're into that sort of thing but is now quite dated looking - yet fun enough for an older game at very a deep discount price these days.

3. Return To Castle Wolfenstein GOTY - Actually has an in-game plot, some pretty good level designs and reasonably diverse gameplay. But the SP game simply is not as good as it could have been given the state-of-the-shooter-art and its royal lineage. Although I no longer do the online gaming thing, it is supposed to have a superb MP mode.

4. I Was An Atomic Mutant - Simply fun third person, arcade shooter action but in a very stylized and very clever 1950's B movie / creature feature format in full 3D and you get to play any one of 4 huge atomic beasts as you run rampant across the countryside destroying whole towns and squashing little people, tanks, planes and whatever else they throw at you in mostly random maps. My favorite monster was Reptomicus the giant homage to Godzilla that breathes searing fireballs and tail stomps buildings flat as a pancake in nothing flat. However, the game is pure linear arcade stuff and gets repetitve very quickly. It was a budget title at release though and super cheap now, so I would recommend it for a few laughs and a little weekend diversion from more serious shooters or other genres.

5. American McGee's Alice - Absolutely stunning to the eyes and ears but much more of a third person action game than a true adventure title. Still it was fun floating around some truly amazing levels blowing steam up Alice's dress and fighting some of the coolest enemies ever with some of the cleverest weapons you'll ever see. Yes, there are some integrated puzzles but mostly simple and many are action oriented, so almost anyone with a little eye-to-hand coordination can get through them. If not, skip it.

6. Clive Barker's Undying - Along with NOLF and The Wheel of Time, simply THE best pure SP shooter for the PC (that I have played thus far) since Half-Life period.

7. Project Eden - Oft overlooked and far better than you might think, this is a very good squad-based, third person 3D action adventure hybrid with some strong tactical game elements that act like "puzzles". But they are fully integrated into the game world, the very good, original creepy sci-fi story and the gameplay. As a bargain bin title these days it is highly recommended - except for two particularly frustrating action puzzles. Nevertheless they are beatable if you're quick and the rest of the game is a real pleasure 90% of the time.

8. Max Payne 1 - Just started it last night and am already loving the unique comic book style story presentation, the dime store detective novel characterizations in a modern world and the cool bullet time fight mode.

Cheers, Terry

Good old Friday.

It's a short weekend for me (I don't have one), but then again I never do at this time of the year.

But that doesn't mean I can't have some gaming goodness. Tonight, the wife and I will be playing UT2004 together like we always do on the weekends, we'll probably meet up with my brother somewhere along the way on one of the servers too. Probably play until 1 or 2 AM, then crash. Not exciting, but relaxing and it makes Friday feel somewhat like a Friday should feel. Plus, a family that frags together, stays together.

Terry I wondered if you ever tried Gothic 2?

Both Gothic I and II were / are great games. I never thought they got the kind of recognition both games deserved. I played through GI twice and GII once and am planning on going back through GII again sometime soon.

Oh, and just to keep this post on topic, Happy Friday all. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Happy Friday.

There's been an oder in the kitchen for a while now but have not been able to locate where it was coming from. Well this morning dad's got the hotpate stove dismantled on the kitchen table. One of the plates had cracked causing oil to leak into it. Some rubber had also wasted away. Hence the smell.

One week holiday is over now. :( Back to uni.

Why would I be offended, Feuerwizard ??

I seem to have been too busy the last two months or so to make any full posts.
My posts are "full", not "long". :p:

Besides, I didn't think that 6,000 words from the Admin on why the current Kuwaiti economic status is having a direct affect on various Mid-Eastern sociological aspects, including the strife in Iraq & Iran, would be appropriate for new forums welcoming new members.

Don't worry Gaim, you're still the king of long posts ;)

Both Gothic 1 & 2 are also sitting right here waiting to be played along with Arx Fatalis, Morrowind GOTY, NWN Gold + HoU EP, Lionheart, Greyhawk / ToEE, Deus Ex: IW and KOTOR.

HoU is excellent. It's so much better than the original NWN campaign. SoU is quite good too. The quests are much more interesting, the NPC's are better and the atmosphere is more engaging. The henchman AI has been improved but I still think it could be better. I suggest playing SoU first as HoU continues the plot of SoU.

Am planning on doing just that in NWN and then will download ALL the best SP modules before considering a forray back into online MP gaming in some true DM controlled, custom D&D mods. The rest are all pretty much SP-only anyway - which generally suits my needs these days.

My week was quite good, filled up with rehersals for my play coming up.

If you didn't know, I've been in a play for the last 6 months, we went to the Sears Drama Festival a while ago, won a whole bunch of awards (2 awards of excellence, and for me, an award of merit) and we moved on (3 out of 14 made it, so we did well).

We are performing again in front of an audience of 'we-don't-know-how-many'. It could be anywhere from 200-400 people. My next week will be filled up with that and other drama related stuff.

Overall, I'm quite excited :D

I am going to a free concert outside tomorrow evening at a downtown park and am playing Painkiller and Far Cry mainly tonight with some light adult beverages.

I despise, at this point, the lack of a save anywhere feature in FC, but other than that it's definitely the best FPS since MOH:AA, if not NOLF. It's also very challenging, without being complicated or annoying, outside of the lack of save feature.

Painkiller is a riot, you're always wondering what crazy looking thing is going to come after you next (the aslyum level was most memorable). I like this game much better than I did Serious Sam (which I liked a lot) it's suprisingly good, as the demo didn't do much for me outside of the impressive engine/graphics/physics.

Nova

SupaTroopa, do you think the overall game is worth buying? I played the demo at a cyber café downtown and I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if the price is worth it.

Wasn't that you, who was asking about how to get used to being on a stage in front of people, back on those PCGO forums ??

Regardless, you sure seem to be doing VERY well for yourself !!

Today was REALLY fun. At least the last 2 hours anyway. I spent it with another Roleplayer on the Lineage 2 Beta. I also played the demo's for some games, the I of the Dragon and Airstike 2. I wouldn't buy either but I think the first on was a first(second because Horizons also had dragon PCs) It was hard to get the hang of at first and I just generally didn't like the play style. Airstrike 2 reminded me of... that old game I played for a while, I forget it's name. I think I'll play that demo a bit more tomorrow morning.
