It seems that im the only one not interested in this game.

I thought the demo was good, but nothing spectacular. Everyone seems to rave over this game. Why? I didn't think much of the weapons. The graphics are quite good, the vechiles (in the demo anyway) i found to be okish. Sure it has some sort of physics and it looks ok.. but i thought the gameplay was below par to other FPS games.

Of course im only going by the demo and what ive seen. Everyone else loves the game and it sounds like its a huge hit.

Why do you all love it so much? Or do a lot of you also think its over-rated and just keeping quiet so Fzoul doesn't jump on you and start chewing on your knees?

Actually, I don't care much for Far Cry either. I played it at the LAN center and I didn't like it much. I also don't really like the setting.

It's a fun game for various reasons - sniping and taking out people from afar outdoors, admiring the scenery, getting scared like crazy at times in corridors, good mission variety (vehicles w/mounted guns, indoor/outdoor enviroments, sniping, non-linear feeling missions, close combat, etc..,).

I really like the weapons - but I never put much emphasis on geeky stuff like makes and models and how "real" they look or sound - I could care less - as long they're fun to wield and switch around depending on the situation.

I like being able to take out a large helicopter with a shouldered rocket launcher where it's a bit of a challenge to do so versus just an arcade shoot-em-up, as well as the good location damage on enemies, the very good AI, manning turrets, taking on tough commandos who drop down on you a la Half Life etc..,

And sure the graphic, lighting and sound quality are next gen and if you got the PC to run it at decent levels it's impressive as hell.

It's a quality game and a lot of fun, not overly short either for once (mostly due to the lay-out of the levels and the default checkpoint system).

Is it the next great game franchise? Heck no not even close. But it was definitey worth the $40 I paid for it and a bit more. Just a great experience and a break from the seemingly endless WWII, Vietnam and Army clones out there that I am so tired of.

Hehe, poor Fzoul, there wasn't a game he didn't like...A LOT (future tombstone epitaph) :p:

I've also only played the demo and honestly really enjoyed it.

I've liked that it's a very open plan approach. They give you something to aim towards, and leave the rest up to you. I've managed to find various ways to approach the given enemy, using different techniques, some that work, some that don't.

From what I saw the AI reacted fairly realistically - it started hunting me down and by drawing everyone in the area to me, I could kill them all and have an easy walk around afterwards.

The graphics are also top notch.

It just never even hit my radar in all honesty. I have no interest whatsoever in playing it. I think I'm waiting for HL2 before I play any other FPSs, mainly because I've been getting rather bored of them lately. Even the most recent one I bought, Painkiller, hasn't been loaded up in about a month.

I enjoyed it alot. And will give it another shot when I get my 9800 Pro, even with my 9000P on low of all low settings, it looked amazing.

I agree with Supa Troopa's points on this one. Lots of good small things add up to one big thing.

The story is not incredibly original, very Dr. Morough (sp?) -ish, but it gets the job done with the way the game plays.

.

I didn't realize that Far Cry's story was derivative of The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells.

Coooooooooooooooool. I loved that story.

Cheers, Terry

Hmmm, I don't think much of it either tbph, I played it quite a bit around my neighbours and it tends to bore me a bit. Beautiful graphics though but nah, not for me.

I know this is an old topic and i don't hope anyone to answer it but i have a question:

i really want to play this game but im not sure i can take advantage of its potencial with my system:
Celeron 2.5 GHz
256 RAM (here its my biggest concern)
geforce 6200 256MB

i want to know how good can i play it, with the best performance without compromising the game experience.

i hope somone sees this.
