We got a chance to ask a developer a few questions about VU Game's upcomminggame. FlatOut 2 is the sequel to FlatOut, a destructive racing game with multiple play modes.

We can ask away 10 questions and would like to get the community involved. If you have a question that you would like to have answered, post them here. We'll take the top 10 questions and submit them. We did a pretty good job with the Age of Empires 3 Q&A =]

What graphic updates will you make to take advantage of the current gen of cards?

Will the game engine make use of Dual core / SMP? How about SLI / Crossfire based systems?

What kind of time do you generally get for final round Q&A Testing before the game is ripped out of your hands? :)

What's your average defect per KLOC? :D /not that I expect you to ask this, but f'eh.

Will you give us the option to turn off Bloom?

Will you still be using inde music for the sequel?

Will there be a better replay system?

Will you add blood, gore and tearing body parts to the drivers?

Try to aviod yes and no questions. They don't get us very much info at all. Also use very general questions. Instead of asking if they are going to improve the physics, maybe you should ask what all they are improving.

As for some questions...

What did you learn from the first Flatout, and what changes you have planned? (ok, two questions but maybe they wont notice :): )

If they say something about a big suprise, or a new gameplay mode, engine, ect that sounds intresting, ask them to explain it in more detail.

Sounds good I'll compile them into something we can use and submit. Hopefully we'll get some answers (hey, they gave us this opportunity =S) and will be posted on the main site =]

Here is the list of questions I compiled. Will submit them now =]

1. Since FlatOut heavily used physics, what kind of improvements and additions to the physics will FlatOut 2 feature?

2. Is there anychance we'll see better support for multiplayer? If so, what kind of features and improvements should we expect?

3. What graphic engine updates will you make to take advantage of the current generation of video cards?

4. Will the game engine make use of Dual core / SMP? How about SLI / Crossfire based systems?

5. For the sound department, what additions will FlatOut 2 offer for the audiophiles? Will it take advantage of the new Creative XFI sound cards featuring the 64mb ram on it and HD EAX?

6. Will Flatout 2 still be using indy music for the sequel?

7. Have there been any changes or additions done to the replay system? If so, can you please elaborate on them?

8. What did you learn from the first Flatout, and what changes you have planned?

9. Will there be any features for the mod-community who like to design additional levels and features for the game? If so, how easy will it be and if there will be any tools released?

10. What is your favorite part about Flatout 2?

11. Is there anything else you would like to say about Flatout 2 that we have not covered?

I just saw the screens posted today, I got one more question:

1. Why was it decided to move away from more classic/muscle designed cars toward modern street racing cars?

2. Is there anychance we'll have/see some muscle cars in Flatout 2?

/end questions.

I must say, I really really really wish all these "new" racing games would get up off the "ricey" extreme street racing and let people choose what type of cars they want. I don't like riced out honda's and stuff, I much prefer more classic muscle cars and such (mustang fastbacks, trans am, corvette's, etc).

edit - doh, didn't see you already had all the questions/submitted them :p, my bad.

1. Will you be adding any sort of stunt track with stunt bonuses and such?

2. What kind of music/bands can we expect from the soundtrack more artist from down under? Flatout's soundtrack was a definite refreshment from the usually racing game nonsense.

Also I think most of the cars they use are Australian/New Zealand cars I didnt actually see anything resembling a honda just what looked like could have been GM cars and some older ones too.

p.s. I think I even saw a firebird in there
