HP, one of the largest multimedia companies, has announced that the company will certify and support MySQL, an open-source database software and JBoss, an open-source Jave based software. HP will be certifying and supporting the open-source software on its industry standard servers.
In an agreement, MySQL and JBoss will join HP's partner program and work with HP on testing and engineering support. The companies will also work together on consumer support.
HP has been showing high interests in open-source software since it merged with Compaq. HP is also working with Novell so that the computing giant can install Linux on its personal desktop computers.
The company has been really successful in the enterprise server market up to this point and hopes to continue its strike by working with MySQL and JBoss, world's popular server-based/management software. MySQL doubled its profits to $12 million last year and is a strong competitor against Microsoft's low-end database software.
JBoss, on the other hand, is a leading software of choice for running Java-based Web applications.
