Just got the game. I running well above the recommended requirements, but when playing I have a lot of choppy game play. I've readjusted settings till I'm blue in the face but none seems to help. Any suggestions? :(:

Are you running anti-aliasing and antistropic filtering? That could kill the performance alot. Also, did you mention if you tried running on the lowest settings (even though your computer should go above that)? If you are still getting choppy gameply with everything on lowest, then something is wrong. Make sure your game is patched along with having the latest drivers for video, soundcard, and motherboard.

"Are you running anti-aliasing and antistropic filtering?"
I have them turned off. I've run 800x600 mode and nothing seems to help. I tried playing COD and that ran smoothly. I'm not overheating. So I just think I've hit a wall on this one.

I just finished it for the second time about two weeks, ago, and I've had no problems on a comparable system. I don't know what the problem could be, but did you try uninstalling and reinstalling just on general principles? All I can suggest is to turn everything down, and then turn one thing at a time back up until you encounter trouble. Edward.

I have similar specs (less RAM and 9600xt), and it runs well for me. Try some new drivers maybe. Also, try starting the game from the command prompt with the "-use11" extension. This turns off pixel shaders 2.0, which can kill your performance on a nVidia card. Also, try turning the shadows and specular settings off, and put particles on medium.

I have had problems with Halo also so your not alone. I cant seem to break 30 fps no matter what. I usually lock the game at 30 fps so it at least seems smooth. From what I have heard, the game was just unoptimized for some specifications.

If all you are doing is playing multiplayer, then you can d/l Halo custom edition (http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/halo/Thirdparty/halocesetup_en_1.00.exe.html), which has a more optimized graphics engine.

At the end of the shortcut put -use11 it forces Halo to use older shaders, the FX range has crappy shaders and can't cut it with the 2.0 ones.
Look at Battleground Halo, in the forums, for info.

Thanks for all of the advice. I have turned down all settings to either off or low and it does help. I am about to try and put that sting "use11" in and see what happens. I much appreciate the inputs. This is a game worth trying to save. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

As mentioned above, try some older version drivers for your game. Sometimes the older drivers actually run better. Case in point... Cat 4.5 is the latest ATI driver set but I get best performance for SW-KOTOR using Cat 4.2.

Well I found what might be my problem, or part of a problem. I just bought a Uniden 2.4 GHz cordless phone. It was sitting next to my monitor which is just between the phone and my box which is only 2 1/2 Ft. from the monitor. I'm suspecting that this might be causing some interference with game play. I was listening to the Kim Kommando show on Sunday and heard her say something about that type of phone causing problems with Wi-FI equipped laptops. I put the phone further away and it looks like some improvement. Could be just my wishful thinking.

Ahh yes, if you are using wifi, and own the clear case like you say in your sig, that could have been it. I just assumed ahead of time that you had tried both SP and MP modes.

I am making a big assumption on my part about the phone. My laptop is Wi-FI and My clear case is Lan cable. I'm assuming that if a phone can screwup a WI-FI then it can also mess with the desktop's RF as that is if I think I'm correct in saying that anything running under a GHz Freq. is producing RF signals. Again all I'm doing is guessing as I am confident that folks such as I find here know far and away more then I do about this stuff.

I have come down to the conclussion that this game was developed with Nvidia not in mind. I have dropped everything to its lowest settings and put the string "use11" into the short cut and it still has not helped.

When was the last time you updated the BIOS for your motherboard ??
One time I had major problems with the video end of games. Turned out my BIOS needed updating. After that everything ran smooth as silk.

There must be some other problem. Even on my old geForce 4 MX the game ran o-k.
Are you sure that anti-aliasing is not on?

I believe that the fault is bad coding. Everyone it seems doesn't get respectable frames even with higher end systems. I saw a benchmark at HardOCP that showed a 9800 Pro dropping into sub-20 FPS.
The problem is the pixel shaders. They use them abundantly, but they have coded them horribly to take advantage of XBX architecture, but not PC.
There is a CE patch that allows the pixel shaders to run many times faster, but unfortunatly, the alternate pixel shaders only work in MP.

I deselected all in msconfig so I had nothing running in the background. My BIOS is up to date. And no Anti-Alising is operating. I gues that it could be a bad video card, though there is no way that i can tell.
