Does anyone here like reality tv? Do you like shows like American Idol and Survivor? I have yet to see the attraction for this kind of show. I can kind of see the attraction for American Idol, but for the rest, no!

They are all a joke, I watched American idol a few times but it is hyped too much.

To an extent, yes, I do enjoy them. I started watching way back in the MTV days of Real World and Road Rules (mostly Road Rules). However, what generally happens is that the first season is new and the people do not know what to expect and it is fun. The second season is usually pretty good too, but as it keeps going, A) it definitely becomes been there done that for me and B) the new people know what to expect and it shows.

I sometimes watch season finales now, the Bachelor, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance and maybe a couple of others because that is usually when the big stuff goes down. Other then that, I would rather get my reality from... reality.

To tie it into games though, I think reality TV really parrallels games like the Sims. It is one of the biggest selling games ever, and still many people look at it as nothing more then watching someone do chores on the PC.

Can't stand 'em.

The phrase "reality TV" is a huge oxymoron.

Mostly for laughs.

The Idol shows are pretty good, except for the part where they depend on the idiotic audience to make money...sorry, 'vote' for the best/favourite.

The only other Reality TV show that really gets me is the Great Race (name?) which is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer - various couples racing around the world from clue to clue. It's like a travel show mixed with a cool competition, and it's pretty interesting.

I watched Survivor for the first 2 seasons, then I got sick of it and now I can't stand it. Same for American Idol.

I watched ( past tense )...The Mole for the 2 seasons that it was on. It was the only "reality" show that was completely separate, and more of a "Game Show", than it was a reality show.

Most episodes consisted of 3 games, and each game was worth a set amount of money. If the group completed the game successfully, then the money would be added to the group's pot, you just never knew which of these folks was trying to lose the game, and take money away from the rest.

No romances

No Cookie Cutter "hotties" ( guys/ or gals )

Rarely did the group ever split for the purpose of competing against each other.

It was a very unique and intelligent show, and nothing like the crap that is "Celebrity Mole". They have been re-running the first 2 seasons on Game Show Network. I'm surprised with all the Reality TV lately, another network hasn't given it a 2nd chance.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about The Mole. Great show. Though I too stopped watching it when they started with the celebrities.

The mole is a great show. It's actually a concept of a Belgian production house, but now almost all big television stations in the world have bought the concept to make those shows. I'm pretty proud of that actually. Thank god we haven't had any celebrity mole yet. :):

Survivor is pretty good too, mostly thanks to the interesting people they select. They really made our third season great.

Most of the other reality shows are complete rubbish. I absolutely loathe idol, Big Brother and all those other shows. I can't stand to watch them. Unfortunately my brother likes them, and is always watching them on our television.

I think Reality TV shows have run their course.I tend to watch tv to escape
reality so I have never been into them. The tabloids love the shows though.

I CAN'T stand them. You should see what the idiots running the Quebec media channels are doing. They made their own french version of American Idol and are copying other reality TV shows. Then again, the Quebec media has always sucked.

The only reality TV show I ever watched was the last half of an Amazing Race season because there was very nice footage of foreign countries.

I hate the term "reality" tv. You realize the only "reality" in them is in the name of the genre.

reality tv is kinda goin overboard here. When a season ends i always hear about a new reality tv show that will premier. The title of the reality shows is what really makes me not want to watch 'em. i think one of the worst reality tv shows was the one where they had that migget guy and he had to choose between 10 other girls whether they were miggets or not. That was a new low. One show i think is pretty funny is The Swan.. Geezz who watches these kind of shows. They obviously have to appeal to some sort of audience or else there would be absolutly no reason for that show to premier.

Reality TV is getting... well.. pretty messed up.

Suvivour is ok, American Idol sucks, Big brother.. keeps coming back too.

Now there is this "theres something about mirium" (how ever your spell its name). Its basically the same as other shows with one female and a group of guys who get to know her and she chooses who she wants to be with.. the difference is she was born and man. (only they don't know it yet).

WTF is happening with tv? I want MORE MOVIES and less reality tv and soapies. It's total crap. Movies are on Sunday nights and thats all. The rest is ALL soap opras and reality shows. Talk about crap. No wonder i spend so much time at the pub like i used to. Why stay home when there isn't even something worth watching on tv?

what intrigues me is that the fact that they keep making them means that people keep watching, which is a sad thing to say about our society.

.

The National Enquirer, The Star and many other "news publications" have consistently sold millions of copies every week in this country for decades now and the tabloid industry in general is flourishing around the world. People just can't seem to get enough news about the misery of others or enough set-up shows that display the infinite capacity for utter stupidity, vanity and greed the human race still has. It is a global addiction IMO and one that we would all be much better off without. And yes, it does speak volumes about the audience itself doesn't it?

Cheers, Terry
