Well, I got the new case, but I had some problems. It uses clips that screw on to the optical drives and then slides in. Cool idea, but it didn't work out so well for my CD-RW. I put the clips on, and it jammed the tray. The tray is bent so that it will not go back in or out, it is stuck haning halfway out.

It definately sucks. Is there something I can do to fix it? Should I take it to a computer shop?

Maybe this is just an omen to upgrade to a DVD(+-)RW! :D:

Well, at least you weren't using it as a cup holder...

Yeah, I'd take it into a shop, see what they can do. If it's more cost effective to replace it, well then... DVD time!

:D:

a 52x lite on cd-rw is like 30 bucks, it will probably cost you atleast half of that to get it fixed, maybe more.

An 8x NEC DVD burner is 77 bucks, an 8x Lite-on is 83, a 4x Lite on DVD burner is 67. I say take it as an omen to buy a DVD burner :p.

I think I am going to go the DVD+/-RW route this time. It is a little more, but will be worth it in the end especially for making backups of my games and movies. One question... can you back up a CD-ROM game to a DVD-ROM? That would be cool to compile my game discs into one large disc.

At any rate, how does this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-106-934&depa=1) burner look? I have enjoyed Lite-On products in the past, so I would like to go that route. It seems to me like a good price for being an 8x burner. Any feedback?

I have always enjoyed lite-on products too, I have not tested their dvd burners though. I would assume they are just as good as the rest of their stuff.

Yes and no. You can move the files, but they more than likely will not work as a recognizable game CD should the game goes looking for resources on it.

Keep in mind, most DVD +/- RWs offer only 4.7 GB write spaces. Single layer. You can copy an original DVD movie of about 1:40 mins with a single 5.1 (DTS or Dolby Digital) audio track onto a single R/W DVD w/o any compression of the original. Above that, you'll have to compress the video of the source.

Yeah, I am looking at dual layer burners however. It would be nice to be able to backup my little collection. I have lost so many discs to scratches!
