Last day of school was today, so I figure now is a good time to continue in my MMORPG adventures. First was SWG, now I'm on to this. Got the gold edition for just 20 bucks, so I'm just about set. To anyone that plays, what server and realm do you call home? If there's a couple people in the same place I'll probably come join you. Isn't showing around the newbies always lots of fun? :p:
Looking forward to playing!

Server: Guinevere (Role-Playing server)
Realm: Albion
My main character name is: Ereand Dwarfbagger
what class are ya gonna play as? Coz there are easy ones for new players (since you have SI exp, the necro is very easy to level and solo with, best solo class in game, sucks at RvR though but pwn3z PvE) and there are the difficult ones (like stealth/assassin classes)
I'll be on this weekend so I can hook you up with some funding. You might wanna check out the Camelot Vault "ign" forums. They have good info on various classes and templates and how people play their character. This game is kinda easy to gimp yourself if you spend your skillpoints all wrong, though you do get a chance to reset at lvl 20 and 40 and if you have the skill reset stone from dragon raids.
Starting at lvl 15, you get access to the battlegrounds. These are level specific groups where you can test out your Realm vs Realm combat (coz the regular zones you'll probably get raped) and also gain some realm points which when you gain enough levels in those, you can get Realm Abilities (view the official website for a whole list, some are more usefull to certain classes then others). Remember, there is no penalty when you get killed by another player (this is to encourage pvp).
btw, I'd love to powerlevel you to 50 with my necro but I want you to learn the game from beggining =] Power-leveling is worthless if you dont know how to play your character =P
oh yea and welcome to the war! Best place where you can bag an elf =P Dang those treehuggers =P
edit: oh yea www.camelotherald.com for all the latest news. Cant wait for the new Frontiers expansion. Its so gonna kick ass and add castle sieges such as trebutchets and catapults =P Along with a whole new map and upgradeable castles.
holy crap the test server is on patch 1.70s never seen it go to S before, hell its gonna take a day just to read through the notes

Yeah, my thoughts exactly donjo :p:
OK, I'll go for necro on your server. I started a giant troll character on another server, played around for a while, and honestly I have no idea what the hell i'm doing *runs to gamefaqs*
WTF is the deal with RPing servers anyway? Do people talk funny there? :D:

actually the thing about the RP server... it has the most people, and the only thing RP about is that no stupid names allowed (no l33torman or crap like that). You generally wont find people talk funny unless its an RP guild (been in one and it was actually quite interesting)
Shardos
May 26th, 2004, 09:01 pm
yeah, that's really the only difference.
people used to talk funny, and that was awesome, but now rp servers don't exist in the true sense of the term

Yeah, I've noticed that...I've only run into a few people who were really in to it like that. The lack of retarded sounding names is kind of nice though. By the way, I'm about to hit level 5 with my character, any ideas on which type of skills I should put points in? I haven't used any yet, because I read somewhere that you should wait till around level 5 to decide what path you want to take.

go full deathsight. With this you'll be chain-pulling orange cons easy Even red ones if their weak to spirit attacks. =]
With full DeathSight you'll have access to health drain and power drain. With power drain, you'll be replenishing your mana so basically you'll have absolutely NO DOWNTIME to recharge =P Its very quick and nasty leveling. What I do is use the health drain, the power tap and power tap again, when the mob gets close, you'll the instant health tap shots and if your pet is halfway dead, cast the Healing Over Time spell for it to heal himself. Thats pretty much it. You'll also get the wierd "quick cast" ability its not exactly quick cast but it allows your pet to cast 2 spells when this is activated when its at melee range (remember, spells get interrupted when someone is beating you down and only quick cast lets you cast while in combat)

OK, is there a way to find out what exactly the spells do? Because I just trained all I could in deathsight, but the names of the spells are so weird they dont really tell you anything about what they do. Some of them I guess are fairly obvious but others are impossible to tell.

type /keyboard and look for the info button
then right click on the spell and hit your info button and it tells you what it does

I have a question about crafting. When you're creating a character for crafting, does it matter how you distribute your stat points (intelligence, etc.)? Or will the items you create be just as good regardless of how you create your character?
Also, is there some sort of trick you can do to transfer money or supplies from one character to another? I know in SWG alot of people with 2 accounts would put an item in a house, and then bring in their other character to pick it up. Anything like this in DAoC?

well... for crafting it doesn't matter what class/race you are or what points you put where, it only matters on how high you are in your craft :):
to transfer money/items a lot of people ask a friend to hold their stuff and give it to their other character, but sometimes it's easier to use houses if you can afford them...
personal vaults can only be accessed by that character, but if you have a house vault, you can access it with anyone you give permission to. your alts automatically have the permissions of the owner, so you don't have to worry about that. for transfering money, there is no way to actually put money in a vault for transfer, but you can buy decorations from the house store, and put them in your vault, then sell them back with a different character, since house decorations sell for the same you buy them for if you sell them back to the house store

Thanks for the tips Shardos, I appreciate it. What are the costs like on houses? Is the maintenance terribly expensive?
Oh, and I don't suppose the foundations expansion came with the gold version? I guess I'll have to download that.
Shardos

no I don't think it did, but dl shouldn't take you too long
unless you're on dialup and that just sucks
houses cost 300gold for the lot, and 1 plat to build a cottage, to put a vault inside you need another plat
maintenance isn't too bad though, that's only 20g a week for a cottage
I'm sure zed can donate most of that. I'd help you out, but I'm on a different realm and server

Wow that's alot. Hopefully I'll be able to make some money with the crafting I'm starting to do. Any idea if that old Diablo II trick will work here (the one where you drop an item on the ground, log out, and come back with another char to pick it up)?
Shardos
June 1st, 2004, 11:49 pm
wont work, if you drop something, only the char that dropped it can pick it up
if you need I can log in someone to help you transfer, just yell at me here or get on mid/nimue and yell at gloi :):

what crafting did you start? The cheapest one will probably require 3-4 plat and thats for Cloth crafter =] Everything else seems to be 10+ plat to legend
MasterChief
June 4th, 2004, 04:43 pm
Yeah, after a day or so of crafting I'm starting to realize that things will get mighty expensive. I've switched back to my necromancer for now, which is going nicely.

necro will get ya all the funding you need for other classes =] Especially if you want to play an archer class. Without funding, they're extremely hard to play with =]
I have a bunch of lowbie characters running around with like 200-500 gold each. I should probably get all that gold back and buy a house or something
