I know I have been gone for a while, and I am sure I was missed dearly, but I really need to get back into this gaming habit. My computer that I had posted about a few weeks ago is nearly repair, I have my motherboard out now and should be back this week. In the meantime, and for more productive use, I have a nice Compaq lappy that has been getting me by with schoolwork and general usage.
But with my higher-powered desktop back up soon and a fresh stock of games on the shelves at EB, what should I go for? I was considering most notably Quake 4 or FEAR. I have read mixed reviews for both of them. Q4 is a good MP, but generic SP. FEAR is an awesome SP, but doesn't throw down well in MP. I really need something to chug through a nice SP adventure, but that has some multiplayer replayability. In the meantime, the only thing worth playing in my collection is Battlefield 2, but modern warfare only goes so far. BTW, how is Serious Sam 2? Worth a shot, at a reduced price?
Let me know what you guys are playing and what is worth your time! I only have money for one game at full price, so make it a good one!
Thanks in advance!

Sup man, there are a lot of awesome games coming out now. Quake 4 is not really generic, more like non-innovative. Most people think the single player is awesome and is a nice summation of everything good in a modern fps. The game is stable, has no bugs and looks incredible, better than FEAR from a technical and artistic standpoint. The game has way more enemy and environment types than fear and from what my friend showed me looks more fun than FEAR to me. Multiplayer is just like quake 3 which is good and bad I guess. I have not seen the finished FEAR in action so I cant coment on how the single player really is.
SS2 is a really fun game also. If your not hypercritical of the game and just go with it you will be rewarded by addicting and challenging gameplay. The game is also very long and you get your money's worth. Try the updated demo to get a taste.
You should also check out COD2 if you like WW2. Gamespot gave the game an 8.8. It might not completely overhaul the first COD but it is great if you loved the first game as much as I did.

Hi Guys,
Donshyoku, hopefully you have played half life 2!? that is still the most awesome single player and multiplayer game (s) i have played this year, and still play.
Check out Brothers in arms, i really enjoyed it. If you want a cracking single player game, see if you can get Chronicles of riddick, it was a low key release really, especially being a film tie in, but it really rocks!
I am totally addicted to silent hunter 3 (submarine) so addictive!
There are so many great games at the mo, and about to be released its finding the time. i picked up the 2nd part of prince of persia for £5 and having a blast with it too.
Still, buying fear tommorrow!
Donshyoku, have a look here - http://www.3dgamers.com/games/swbattlefront2/
hopefully the answer to all our prayers!

Yes, I have played Half-Life 2 and also Riddick. Both were excellent, but didn't keep me coming back for more after I was through.
I played the SP demo of FEAR and loved it. I just really don't want to get it and learn that it is short and done for. I played the MP demo on my laptop, with the graphics way down heheh, but it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary.
I am leaning more towards Quake 4 now. I am reading reviews, and as Zach said, they say it is not really innovative, but not bad either. There is a good consensus on MP, and the ladder matches sound really awesome. I'd like to hear some more opinions of Q4 if anyone has them.
Oh yeah, and about Battlefront 2... I wasn't impressed with the first one. After the franchise wore off, it was a drag of a game. The sequel has space battles, but again, I wonder how good they will end up being.

Meh, I am not much into strategy right now, and certainly not Zedd's flavor of it! :-P
What about Ultimate Spider-Man? Anyone get their hands on this yet?

I wholeheartedly recommend Quake 4, absolutely the best FPS SP game since Far Cry, and I like it better than FC actually.

I got Ultimate Spiderman today, though, I am probably going to get the other one(s) too.
I have a problem... all of the textures are rainbowed. Venom's tongue, buildings, and vehicles are distorted and made of a rainbow texture. This is on an Intel 915G, though not the best card, all I have for now. It is supported on the list, and it runs fine, just looks like Sh!t. Gah, I need help! All drivers up to date too!

Fear can be quite a blast for single player, and multiplayer isn't "bad" it's just a bit....well "been there done that" type of feeling, but with bullettime.
Also for a very very good single player game I suggest Fahrenheit (Aka indigo prophecy in the US)
It's a very nice adventure type game, just came out a few weeks ago.
You can play the demo here:

I suggest also the upcoming game, Gun:

An old west style shooter, free roaming and everything :).

Crap! I didn't know Gun was coming for PC! That was my only reason to play an XBOX360! Woot! How long does it have to go anyway?

Bored today, I saw on our very own 3DG that they have some demonstration movies for Oblivion. Not that I wasn't already enamored with the game from the trailer, this really strengthens it. An RPG, especially Bethesda's unique brand, will probably last me a whole lot longer than some run-of-the-mill shooter (even as sweet as FEAR looks), and a whole lot more worth the $50.
I think I am going to preorder it from whatever site shows me the cheapest price ($45 at GoGamer) and wait it out for three weeks. Besides, I have school anyway, why not pass my classes, heh!

If you like the TES series I HIGHLY recommend the Gothic rpg series if you haven't gave them a go.
I actually love both the TES and Gothic series, but I liked Gothic II A bit more then morrowind, mainly because of the npc's in it.
Gothic III is being made at the moment, aiming for 2006:

I played the demo for the fist Gothic, but wasn't too much of a fan. It seemed clunky to me, but the story was interesting. Having said that, that was a few years ago and my taste has much changed over that time. It may be decent now. I am going to download the demo and give it a shot. BTW, do they go together as in play I first and II second, or are they seperate in any way? I think I may scour the EB cheap rack and see if I can find one sitting on there to play in the meantime!
EDIT: I was reading up on the game a little bit, but it doesn't sound like me. Meh! OH well, I can wait!

Gothic II does take place after the 1st, but you can play it without having played the first.
The conrols are clunky, but you get used to them, just have to have paitence.
