Planescape Torment: More story driven but one of the RPG classics most would recommend and will run well on your system (Same engine as BG and Icewind Dale)
Fallout 1&2: Another favorite RPG done in the same mode as BG, PT, ID, etc.., but not a fantasy game - nuclear holocaust setting, like PT above, one of the most well-known and liked RPG's ever.
Baldur's Gate also has a sequel and expansion if you haven't played those yet.
You could probably pick up PT and the Fallout series for $10 a piece, if that, these days.

There's no party in Fallout 1 or 2 either, technically, you occassionally pick up an NPC (or a car) but there's no control issues, and it's your choice if you want them to come along or not.

What kind of FPS games are you looking for? That is a pretty broad genre. You could be blowing 50 heads off in a second ala Serious Sam, or you could be stealthing around and building up your character like an RPG in Deus Ex.

You should try UT the original. Its a nice fast paced fps that has a cool look and great gameplay. You may have to scale the graphics way down or even render in software mode on your computer because of your graphics card. The gold addition is a great value. Also you can probably run half-life and definatly run quake 1 and 2. There are lots of older fps games that you can play.
I am not so sure on deus x though. I remember it was kind of a system hog at the time it came out.

For a good list of action/adventure games, check out this thread http://forums.gamers.org/showthread.php?t=7638. Many of them are classics that any serious gamers ought to play.
