This demo runs like a slideshow on my computer, which is relatively hi-performance. Anyone else experience this and find a fix?

on edit: Just to save you a trip, it was user error and NOT the game.

When you say runs like a slide show, how many FPS are we talking about? Your computer was high performace about 2 years ago and just now is meeting low end specs for many newer games. I saw that only with respect as our computers share virtually the same specs and I am having performance issues with newer games myself.

Do you have AA or anything else turned on? Those effects hurt your performance, especially in newer games. And lastly, do make sure you have updated drivers for your soundcard.

I tried the demo last night and it was running fine for me (Athlon 64 3500+, Geforce 7800GT, 2 Gig RAM). There are several graphics settings you can tweak, including AA settings and which pixel shader version to use, so I'd suspect you could get the game running at a decent speed on your rig.

I found my problem I think. I had 16 BPP selected for a previous game...changed to 32 BPP and it works fine now.

As far as the gameplay is concerned, it seems like a re-hash of explore, mine, build, produce, defend, attack. Nothing really innovative that I can see. Been there, done that.

Jakey - you would see a significant increase with a video card upgrade I'm certain.

I still get away with a P4 2.4 (see below) and use a 6800 - can run new games at 1024x768 at high settings typically with at least 2xfsaa, usually 4x.

Well, yeah, that's generally what you get in almost any RTS. Where the Earth games (2140, 2150, and now 2160) are different are in the tech-research trees and how much you can customize your units. But it's hard to get a feel for that in the demo.

By the way, if you pre-order Earth 2160 from EB Games/Gamestop, you get a bonus copy of Earth 2150 and its two expansions.

Thanks for the tip. Just so I don't sound all negative, the graphics are pretty good although I found it a bit difficult to keep my orientation using the map. For example, it's hard to determine dead end valleys just from the map. I suppose it just takes some getting used to. Perhaps if a larger map window was a clickable feature it might help.
