I know many of you know a lot about computers and therefore your friends often call you to help fix their computer when it is "slow". I was wondering what your personal records are for the most infected files found (viruses) and the most spyware instances. I found these on 2 seperate computers
My spyware record is 856 instances, scanned with ad-aware 6.
My virus record is 303 infected files scanned with Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus

damn who was the person behind the PC?
Kinda makes you wonder if we should force people to have a license before using the interweb =P

Yea I don't think I could get even close to those numbers if I tried. I just would't know where to start.

I hardly ever find viruses, but I find a ton of spyware. The library computers at school are always filled with obscene amounts of spyware. I have a deal with the librarian - I clean them out every week. You wouldn't believe how crammed with spyware those things get.

Library computers are a haven for that kind of stuff. I've read several stories about library computers being used for zombie work such as ad & virus servers and such.
Mara, your I.T. people read this? :p:
Most spyware I've found was over 400 on a couple pc's (not in the office). Most viruses ever found was something like 100 files infected. It was on a brand new out of the box IBM Aptiva. It had the old WinCIH virus all over it. Some lady bought it and brought it into work and wanted to use it. Fortunately I got the AV updated before it went on the network. I wrote a little letter to IBM about the problem. A few weeks later a press release was issued by IBM admitting that some of their pc's had been infected by a bad image disk. Here's the story (http://articles.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0WUB/is_1999_April_12/ai_54414345) in case you don't believe me. :shades:

I've found more than 1500 items using adaware on my dad's PC.
Th virus record on the same PC was a little over 50. I can't get it into their heads that they have to run this stuff once a week to stay on top of it all.
I'm actually getting SICK of how often they have problems. I don't know what the hell they're doing on that machine, but they keep frying it.
agh!
