I'm sure there was a touch of partying going on in the Great White North last night.... :)

Iggy was a man possesed last night, and Conroy was flat out brilliant. The best team won that series bar none.

heh heh...

I'm fine, gen... I actually don't drink on weeknights, no matter what, so I was feeling fine this morning. I will admit I'm pretty tired, though.

We have this strip outside the 'Dome, officially called 17th Avenue, but it has become known as the "Red Mile" and an area about 30 city blocks in size is PACKED with people after every game. There's already thousands of people in the area watching the game at the pubs and bars, then when the game lets out, another 22,000 or so join the fun.

It's definitely been a blast, and it's really brought this city together around the Flames. It's really amazing what a winning team can do for the community!

Of course, one of the bigger stories is the Mardi Gras atmosphere: women (usually drunk) have taken to showing their naked chests, and doing other things to themselves and other women. It's kind of pissing some groups off (the usual puritanical nonsense, mostly). The cops are turning a blind eye because they don't want to make an arrest that could start something major. Calgarians have been very, very good about things. No rioting, no BS, only good times. I think the only major thing that happened was a fist fight between two drunk guys, and then the women, but that's it.

Anyway, we're pretty damned pumped, it's been 15 years since the Flames were in the Cup final (we won it last time), and we're pumped to see it here again!

YEAH BABY!!!!

Bah!

You know, as an Edmontonian and an Albertan, I was cheering for the Flames, and in a way I still am. But lately, Calgary Flames fans in Calgary have been making asses of themselves on Edmonton radio, showing the same amount of class as Britney Spears.

Calgarians have taken to calling up Edmonton sports radio stations solely to call Edmonton, their fans, their teams and in general the people of Edmonton a bunch of idiots, whiners, etc. It pissed me off to no end to hear that Calgary fans are taking this run (which is no more than Anaheim at this point) as a reason to knock Edmonton and the people that live here instead of celebrating their accomplishment for what it is. What is even worse is that about 65% of the people in Edmonton have actually grown up and are supporting an Alberta team, and they are getting kicked around by people in Calgary for doing so. Calgary radio host Rob Kerr (Fan 960 in Calgary) is the worst of them all. He loves this whole knock the other city thing, which is why when he worked in Edmonton doing the same thing to Calgarians, I had absolutely no respect for him. He obviously hasn’t grown up at all since moving to Calgary.

Basically, it has become very hard to cheer for Calgary living in Edmonton right now, but Calgary does have the gong show known as the Stampeders so……

Go Tampa Bay (tonight anyway). Once the finals are set, I’ll see which way I cheer for.

Jarome Iginla is an Edmonton boy, so that is the only saving grace I have if I decide to cheer for the Flames.

In Canada, wouldn't that be "showing the same amount of class as Celine Dion."?

bah, is right!

Bruenor, don't let a bunch of dumbasses dictate who you're cheering for! Personally, I agree that it's very immature of these people to knock Edmonton around. You know, if the position were reversed, I'd cheer for Edmonton. It's the first time in 10 years that a Canadian hockey team is in the final, and that's the best news of all to me!

Even my aunt and uncle, die hard Canuck fans, are now cheering the Flames. :)

Fans DO get pretty stupid sometimes, and I can't believe some of the attention whoring local DJs are doing, but I try to ignore it and just enjoy the game.

What is this curious activity on ice? I also ask what is ice...as I look out my window at the thermometer just a hair below ninety freaking degrees already this year. :fire: :fire: :fire:

A hearty congrats to you long suffering Calgary Flames fans.

Great playoff run so far and I think they have a pretty decent chance against either Tampa Bay of Philly. Good luck in the finals.

You know, to tie two sports together here, a sports broadcaster up here made a great comparison. He basically said that the Calgary Flames are the NHL equivalent of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. The type of teams they are, Garnett=Iginla, coaching and play styles, etc. Despite the fact that I am not the biggest B-Ball fan on the planet, I do follow the NBA enough to see what he was talking about. The only difference is that Calgary made it to the finals and I don't think the Timberwolves will make it past the Lakers.

Chylde. Yeah, I'll probably still cheer on the Flames. I've got to admit, I was a little bitter this morning after listening to the sports call-in shows last night and all we had were these idiots calling all night.

Although, I will also admit, I do like the Tampa Bay Lightning. I like the free-wheeling, offense-first style that they play. So I wouldn't be too hurt if TBay won the cup either. I can't stand Philly though, especially Hitchcock (too many bad memories for the Oilers from his Dallas head-coaching days)

As a Canadian, I can honestly say we deny her existence (or her nation of origin at the very least).

You Americans are more than welcome to keep her though, ditto for Avril Lavigne.

As a fellow Canadian, I can 100% back Bruenor up on this statement. My first thought was "Celine who?"
