Okay, your house/apartment is on fire. You're trying to save as much as possible, but it's only possible to save one game. Which one game out of your collection would you save?

Aha!! If your house is burning down you wouldn't have a computer to play it on.
I would go with Alpha Centauri.

Let them all burn, collect the insurance, then buy all my old favorites at drastically reduced prices and pocket the remaining money! :p:
Sorry, guess that wasn't the question.

After months of playing CS which SUCKS! (cs: s all the way) I'm going to have to switch mine to... morrowind or NWN, because of endless replayability due to their map makers.

I actually thought about this a few days and I think I'll go with my original choice, Planescape Torment.
The reason being this game is a classic and becoming harder to find all the time. You can still find it online, but retailers and even Interplay don't even carry it.
Also the original game comes on 4 cd's. Re-releases of the game now come on only 2 disks. Not sure what the deal is with that, but I have the original 4 disk set. It may be a collectors item someday.

if my house were on fire, my hand/arm would probably get burned off by grabbing COD at the last second.

I have all my games stored safley in a box in the closet close to the door, so I can grab these any minutes, but if I can only carry one game it'll be BG2, I have had the most fun in my whole life with this game.
I remember walking from and to the train station every day, and thinknig about my wizard "Ozraiel", what kind of spells I'm gonna outfit him with, and how kickass is he *sighs* good days, good days.

I had to think about the answer for a little bit. But, I decided I'd go with the logical approach and grab my original No One Lives Forever GOTY Edition.
This is because most of the other games are parts of a complete series that can now be purchased in a single box with the latest patches.
The complete Baldur's Gate series originally came in four boxes. But now you can buy the entire series in just one or two boxes.
Morrowind & 2 expansion games are now found in a single box.
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault & 2 expansions are now in a single box.
Neverwinter Nights & 2 expansions are now in a single box (I think).
Icewind Dale & 2 expansions, plus IwD2, are all in a single box now.
And so on and so forth.
This would make replacing my game collection more convenient. Besides, if my house was torched, I'd need that great musical CD from the NOLF GOTY to help cheer me up.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Didn't think there was another "GO" player here.
For those of you who don't know, "GO" is a traditional Japanese strategy game.

For those of you who don't know, "GO" is a traditional Japanese strategy game.
Go originated in China not Japan. But there is still some question as whether Emperor Yao actually invented it or not. He did urge his people to play it though (best guess around the third century AD).
Later during the T'ang dynasty between 600 and 900 AD when Go had pervaded both major religions of the time (Confucianism and Taoism), China began trading more with both Korea and Japan where the game took hold and from there it spread to Germany, the rest of Europe and beyond after Japan opened up its international trade lanes in the 1800's. That is why many people think that Go started in Japan.
I thought so too until a highly respected Chess grandmaster from Vienna who also enjoyed Go corrected me and offered some verifiable historical resource material to back it up. He then proceeded to beat the living crap out of me on the Chess board fifty straight times over the course of several years until he was finally forced to accept a stalemate, when I had the advantage at the end of perhaps the longest and most difficult game I ever played. NOT losing to him felt more like a victory than any outright win I ever attained at Chess.
FYI: There is a very good little overview of Go at:

I would choose Far Cry. I can play it many times and savour the beauty of the islands, water around me. I grow tired a bit of UT2004 perhaps because it requires many people to play it to have fun. I don't play over the Internet and my home LAN is comprised of 2 computers.

Finally!!! Someone else on these boards with some good gaming sense!!!
At the risk of threadjacking, I'm looking forward to the 2005 version coming out soon. EA did a great job with 2004 IMHO.
And now... back to your regularly scheduled thread topic! :shades:

If my place was on fire id burn to death cause id spend to long trying to decide which game..
I think id choose Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy or Half Life. It'd have to be a game with a very high replay value and a game that is long. (and easily modded) :P

System Shock 2, cuz it's so damn hard to get a big box version of these days (which is what mine is), and seems to be in great demand, bringing high prices on sites such as Amazon, so I could probably sell it for enough to get a new house or at least an apartment. :D:
