I have always heard that it is best to keep your desktop resolution and your game resolution the same for performance... how true, if at all, is this?

I run all of my games at 1024x768 as it seems a good middle ground and it is probably the best my video card can handle in most modern games. But I am really tired of that rez for my desktop, and I have stepped it up a notch to 1152x864. Am I going to lose much, if any, speed when I go into a game? Should I actaully change my desktop resolution to match before launching the game?

Thanks!

No performance whatsoever will be lost.

Video cards output their signal at the requested resolution, and only at that resolution, until a different resolution signal is requested.

The only time/energy/resources you'll lose by using different resolutions is when leaving/entering games, as your LCD/monitor and card switch over to the new resolution.

Oh, and the government uses toothpaste to control your buying habits. Right after they're finished implanting microchips into your brain to go on a homicidal rampage after a few key phrases are spoken to you.
