It looks like the release date is "Holidays 2004" but there are two great videos from the Rollercoaster Tycoon site (http://www.rollercoastertycoon2.com/).

I played Rollercoaster Tycoon and its expansions forever. I loved playing in a sandbox mode and experimenting with the whims of the simple crowd mechanics. While it wasn't very complex, it was darned satisfying to see your peeps rush to a new attraction or ride... or see everyone buy the new T-shirt, umbrella or other souvenier.

The coaster editor in RCT2 was long overdue, but I was a little disappointed by it. Despite not purchasing the sequel, I still play the original and boot it up for kids who come over. All ages seem to love it, and in different ways. But it's very satisfying and a relatively non-violent game except when the coasters crash and derail.

I loved looping coasters around each other, building up a park and adding more and more rides. It made me appreciate the really great and beautiful parks. I noticed landscaping more in the ones I visited. I noticed placement of benches, lights and trash cans.

I anticipate RCT3, though! That looks like a dream come true. Nice night shots, too. I wonder if we can play with the night lighting in the game? That would be sweet! I think I'm going to enjoy this one. The riding coasters looks pretty detailed. I hope that it runs as great as it looks.

From the official site (http://www.rollercoastertycoon2.com/):

Q: Will RCT3 have a sandbox mode? How is this implemented?
A: Yes (cue the sound of cheers from around the world..)! Very simple - you can put anything you like into your park, with the one caveat that a small amount of content is unlock able throughout the game. So straight off the bat you'll be able to use pretty much everything in your park, but to get a truly complete-ist buzz you have some serious Tycoon-ing to do!

Yes! A serious sandbox mode! Previous sandboxes, IIRC, involved trainers or separate editors.

[W]e've tried to ensure that the themes we do are relatively rich compared to some in previous incarnations of the game, so as well as rides & attractions there are always also building sets, staff uniforms, foliage, benches, lamps and so on. We have also tried to incorporate this into the gameplay in subtle ways, so that now, for example, a Peeps impression of a park is partly based on the coherency of the themeing.

Anyone else excited about this game? It will be a bit of a wait, but it seems to be worth it.

.

I can't tell you how many times I started to reach for RCT 1 & 2 in stores because it's always looked like fun. But every time, yet another great new shooter, RPG, adventure or other game also catches my eye and I stop to think of how long my backlog list already is.

Maybe this time I'll just ignore the allure of the next big fragfest or action adventure and just bite the rollercoaster bullet.

Cheers, Terry

I am very much looking forwared to RTC3 as well, the original RCT was one of the first games I played on my PC and it basically pulled me into "Windows" PC gaming (was a Mac head before that). Loved the rollercoaster design contests also, very nostalgic game for me.

I can't wait for RCT3 to come out. Seriouslly, RCT 1 is one of the best games made.

i have always been a fan of rollercoaster tycoon. it used to be a game that i played for like 4 hours in one sitting. Rollercoaster tycoon got really addicting for me. heck, i dont even kno why i dont play in anymore. i guess once my dad had to rebuild our pc and after that i didnt even bother to reinstall it. And i guess after i had been playing it for a while i just got bored with the same stuff to build with. but i guess now that the new expansion is coming out im sure that i will want to keep playing it. heh, and another reason why i stopped playing it is because i could never finish a park. like the map...whispering cliffs. that one was really hard because it is so small. I always got really irritated because i wanted to add theses huge rollercoasters that cost a lot of money. and i ended up going into dept. lol, i guess when it comes to rollercoaster tycoon im better with cheat codes. things like setting the building costs to 0. hmmm i wonder if i did ever figure that out. cause i kno i tried it once and i think MC said that it didnt work for some reason. Not exactly sure on that one. hehe...one thing that i always enjoyed doing is picking up the ppl who said that they wanted to leave and wanting to throw them into the ocean. I also enjoyed building my own rollercoasters and customizing the little kitty rides or the carnival rides. I might actually want to pick up a copy of this game when it comes out. But u never know. u have to wait atleast a day or two after it comes out because something could go wrong and the reviews would say that this game is bad....I doubt that though, im sure this game will be as addicting as the last two games were. :D:

I remember the Wispering Cliffs. My park endend up being super cramped with tunels and coasters coming down till the water. Fun times fun times.

My original game didn't work, so I went to the store and sprung for a copy of RCT2. It was marked $9.99, but I got it for $2.00! I think that's pretty cool and I'm enjoying playing the game yet again.

It's so addictive!
