Watch out Mr. N. You're dating yourself. It would be interesting to find out how many here under the age of 30 know what P. F. Flyers were.

I caught that Vulcanized thing way back when Mr. Spock first debuted on the original Star Trek. Of course by then, most of us kids had already switched from our beloved black, high-top P.F. Flyers to nice white Keds and neither Nike or Adidas even existed yet, Star Wars wasn't even a dream and color TVs were still a rarity.

Well I just happen to make a WalMart run last night and I decided to take a look at the dvd section. Sure enough, there it was. Christie looked at me kind of funny when I picked up a cartoon dvd collection for $50, but she was ok with it. Very cool collection!

A postscript follow up:
OK Sunday I finally had a chance to take a break for a while so I decided to fire up the dvd player. I watched the entire first dvd and part of the 4th which featured the extra content such as the P.F. Flyer commercial and inside commetaries of some of the artists and makers of the cartoon.
It was pointed out and I was reminded as I watched some of the episodes. This was not your usual adventure cartoon. The animation stands up pretty well even today with all the computer animation. In its day Jonny Quest was the best in cartoon animation. Take a look at the cartoon if you get a chance. Take time to observe the backgrounds. The explosions with falling debris. JQ was the first cartoon to feature falling debris in explosions. Another unique thing in its day was the fact that people really died in this cartoon. When someone was shot or blown up, that was it. They're dead. Another great feature is the stories even to this day are still interesting and filled with suspense. For a young person the monsters were believable and terrifying. Just what a kid enjoys.
Jonny Quest is a classic and any cartoon fan will do well with this classic collection.
I watched the P.F. Flyer commercial. It was a great flashback to my youth. I actually remember seeing that commercial when I was a youngster. It featured Jonny Quest rescuing Race Bannon on a volcano. Jonny signaled Race with his P.F. Flyer secret decoder ring. I remembered having to have one of those as a kid and I did indeed have a P.F. Flyer secret decoder ring along with my new black high top sneakers.
One drawback to report. There is no 5.1 sound in the cartoons. The extra features and the "in between" stuff is 5.1, but the cartoons themselves are in mono. And they actually edited the soundtrack of one of the cartoons. Some of you may remember the episode where Race Bannon rubs purple berries on himself in order to pretend to be a water god to some south american tribemen who have captured Dr. Quest and an associate. I've seen the episode enough to recall that Race at one point shouts to the tribesman, "you bunch of monkeys". There is nothing but silence for about 5 seconds while observing his mouth moving. They obviously cut the sound.
Overall still great stuff even for an old fart like me.
