So, the patch came out today, adding two battlegrounds. The first in the alterac mountains (40v40 epic battles), and the second between ashenvale and the barrens (10v10 capture the flag).
I just have to say, playing these battlegrounds is the most fun that I have had in WoW for a long time. I am part of a pretty large guild with many level 60 characters.
Today when the patch came out we grouped up, headed to the alterac battlegrounds, and went at it. It was so much fun being able to coordinate our attacks in the alterac mountains over the guild Teamspeak server. The alterac mountains were much more than I expected. Players on each sides collect body parts along with other things, to help buff their side and get some reputation with their respective clans. When enough of certain things are handed in (for horde we hand in blood, I don't know how it is for alliance), a giant beast is summoned and starts to wreak havoc accross the land. These battles are long. I logged in at about 4PM today and started one of the first battles. When I logged off a little after 10PM, that same battle was still going on (though the alliance had made quite some progress at the end).
In the CTF game I got the be flag runner, which is a very good job for a shaman with insta-cast snares, AoE snares, and a 1 second cast to run 55% faster than normal (with the help of talents and boots with +15% ghost wolf speed), and it was pretty intense.
All in all, I give the battlegrounds two thumbs up and I think that they compliment the PvP honor system very well. My only gripe with PvP now is that only X amount of people can get the epic PvP gear no matter how much time you spend, but everybody and their brother can get the epic gear in Molten core and Onyxia if the invest the time in it. However, that rant is for another day.
