Hey folks, my fiancee and me just got back from what would have been a really nice trip to Miami and the Florida Keys  . We were supposed to spend one day soaking up the sights and sounds of Miami, and then head out the next morning to Key West.
We arrived in Miami in the early afternoon and went out to the beach for a while, then got changed and headed down to South Beach. So far, so good. We strolled around South Beach and the art deco district for a while and since it was Cinco de Mayo we wanted to have some Fajitas for dinner. We decided on a restaurant on South Beach with a live Band playing South American music. The food was Ok, the waiter was rude, but we had fun anyway. Since we wanted to head out early the next morning and we had an ocean view room, we went back to the hotel to spend a little romantic time together. :D:
On the way back I started to get a little weird feeling in my stomach. When we got back to the hotel, I started feeling really bad. So what would've been a romantic night, turned out to be an all night regurgitation party for me. :doa: Yup, that's right, I got some sort of really bad food poisoning.
I couldn't keep any sort of food or drink down for about 1 1/2 days, I could barely walk (or rather stagger) from the bed to the bathroom, and I had a fever. On top of that, the A/C in our hotel room was broken, so we couldn't turn it off, which made it a little cold. After complaining about the A/C to hotel management (over the phone naturally), they finally sent someone to fix it.
Since I couldn't drive, walk, stand, or do anything that doesn't require lying down in a bed and feeling absolutely miserable, we couldn't leave Miami, so we had to prolong our stay there. I called the hotel (more like a really romantic bed & breakfast-type place) in Key West to change our reservation for two days later, and found out that they had registered me in the wrong month. According to them we weren't supposed to come in until the next month, and they were completely booked out for the next two weeks.
So we never made it to Key West. Instead we went home after I felt well enough to drive.
WHAT A TRIP!!!!! Oh well, we'll go somewhere else this week maybe.

Sorry to hear that dude. I had food poisoning once. It was a memorable experience. Don't fret, you guys have the rest of your lives to check out Key West. Definitely make the trip, it's a nifty place. :shades:

Sorry you were so sick, Shaolin. Fortunately (knocks on wood), I've never had food poisoning. Glad you're better though. Well, at least your fiancee knows what kind of patient you'll make. Sorry, thought I'd throw a little levity into this thread.

That bites. Getting sick is the worst on a trip.

Next time I meet Murphy I'll kick him somewhere painful for you. :D: Sorry to hear that Shaolin, there are very few things that ruin holidays better than food poisoning. If karma works the way it should, the next trip should be double good, so you've got something to look forward to, right?

.

Just as important as her finding out what sort of patient you are, you found out how she handles disappointment and those all too common human problems we all face from time to time. I trust that she was a sympathetic and loving nurse.

In any event, hopefully, both of you learned something more valuable than any short, easy trip to Key West could teach. Something about the strength of your relationship. Something to build on. Something that proves that both of you are commited to the good times - and the bad.

Worst case is that you did have a chance to enjoy some beach time and at least a little romantic bed time together in a nice setting, away from the mundane.

Cheers, Terry

Sorry you had this bad experience in our fair city,it would've been great if you called me, I would've arranged for a good night out.

anyway next time you're in miami, make sure to knock on my door, I live five minutes away from south beach, in a city called miami beach. I'd recommend any visitor to forgo south beach since it's loud and lousy.

-if you're into nice walks on the beach, then go to haulover beach, they have a nude section and a regular one, the sand is absolutly gorgious.

-if clubs are your cup of tea, here's a list of good ones I like...
Zobar, Sundays on the bay *outdoorsy*, Bermuda *just don't go there on friday*, Giorgio's *in broward, but nice*

-if you're into enjoying a night in a bar, on the beach, go to sandbar, very friendly, and an ear's shot from the beach.

-if you'd like to shoot some pool go to Sharpshooter.

Thanks for the info, Eddie. The trip to Miami was only supposed to be a short one night stop on the way to Key West, so we didn't plan on staying longer than one night. But if we ever go back to Miami on one of our future travels, I'll let you know and you can show us the not so touristy side of Miami.......

I'll be happy to. it's well know to the locals that most of the REAL attractions are unknown to outsiders.

Ouch. Bad luck dude, but at least you had good company to look after you!
