Rambus did the unthinkable, the undoable, the one thing that you never thought they would ever do, make a DDR interface. The frozen lakes of fire bit is all the politics side, and that really doesn't interest me to much, let the trolls fight it out on the message boards. On the technical side, it looks like Rambus is going to be making a drop-in DDR interface. Since the company makes nothing, it basically develops and licenses intellectual property, it technically is not making the DDR interface, but have designed one.
This interface is a complete DDR interface, it does the dirty work on the physical interface side of things. It doesn’t control what parts of memory are accessed, or how, it just talks to the memory, and make sure the bits are sent out over the right wire, and the electrons coming in are sent to the right part of the memory controller.
