A friend of mine has a 25 yr. old daughter who is pretty, successful, and living life in the fast lane. She told me her daughter has a pair of flip-flops that cost $450, and several $1000 pocketbooks. I can't even imagine! No wonder I've been poor all my life, these people have all the money. Heh, heh, heh.
Being a successfully poor hermit, myself, I only have one pair of shoes, work boots, and when they wear out I buy another pair. Now, if I were to hit the lottery, I would buy myself a pair of sneakers. Ha! Have a great day; I've got to get to work. Edward.

A friend of mine came to college the other day with her mother's Gucci bag, she claimed that her mother bought it for $900 I was about to laugh *thinking it was a joke* but everyone else believed her. I but that kinda of money as a down payment for a car

Conspicuous consumption and outrageous self indulgence have always disgusted me too.

$250 running shoes is "new".
Is this because the "casual trainers" designed by the big name coutoure brands don't count as actual sports shoes?
Yes it's outrageous, but unfortunately nothing new.

And, in the grand scheme of opulent self indulgunce, epidemic immediate gratification and outrgaeous personal pampering, I can think of many things that people waste a whole lot more than $250 on.
I suppose too, since these are athletic shoes by design, that the most common use they will get is actually a good, healthy thing - which I always encourage at any price. So looking good while you exercise is not such a lofty goal. But at least most of the people wearing these over-piced sneakers are getting some exercise and trying to stay fit.

My track shoes cost about $100. They are one the most expensive things I own. :(

Meh, I don't own any expensive athletic gear either, even though I work out regularly. You don't need 450$ shoes to stay in shape.
