I'm still gonna wait on it a little till the whole "newsness" thing wears off. I've been burned by WAY too many MMORPG's =]

That's good advice, Zedd. Think I'll hang out and watch for a bit, too.

Don't blame you, but the "newness" is why I'm playing it now - although grouping is hopeless (too many noobers kill stealing, being inconsiderate and not knowing what they're doing - I just solo, maybe do an occassional mission or two with a small group).
If I get utterly tired of it a month from now, or two, which I expect at some point, i just quit playing it like every other MMORPG - most of which seem to have that same short lifecycle for me.
The fact that it's so focused and streamlined and action oriented (unlike all other MMORPG's) is what i like about it though...at least it's different. But who knows what I'll feel like a month or two from now.

I'm curious Supa. A hero needs a bad guy to fight. Who provides the heavy in the game? Other players or non-player characters?

Right now there's no PVP (fine with me) but there are Super Villians in higher level missions and mission bosses you'll run into starting around level 4-5.
I solo'd a mission last night in a warehouse full of Hellion gang drug dealers and met up with a pretty tough boss - it's a story arc mission which is all you can really do early on other than going into alley ways and fighting thugs mugging civilians.
In this case once I got my "hover" ability at level 6 I was able to take out the boss by floating up in the air where he couldn't use his super fast kick attacks on me anymore and I took him down easily.
I'm sure Raf could tell you much more than I of course since he was in the beta, but we all know he's not much for elaborating on things. :)
the game is about nothing more than action/combat, discovery, and increasing your powers/leveling as well as having about as unique a character that is possible to have in a MMORPG.
The first 30 days are free so if you dont mind paying $50 for it like any other SP game, and if you like the whole superhero thing, I'd certainly so go for it.

I was finally able to purchase a couple of copies for my wife and I this morning, and, after spending most of the afternoon on character creation alone, I've decided I am NEVER going back to DAoC! Any MMORPG that lets me create a goth superhero is aces in my book!
:D:  :shades:

After creating your characte, you get to fill out a Paragon City Registration where you create your name, a brief description of him/her, and your own battle cry, which you can activite with F10! Mine's, "I hate gravity! Don't you?" (my primary power set is gravity control)
hehehe

Hey, that's pretty sweet, Nyght!
Makes me want to go get it today! And if I do, and only play for the month, that'll be worth it by itself. I sense I could wind up spending dozens of hours in there...
That's it. I'm getting it tonight!

That is one sweet looking character Nyght.
Edit: Oh yeah Hooks, an expansion called City of Villians has already been announced, which will introduce PVP to the game.
I can't wait to play the bad guy.

I wonder if anybody will grab the names of classic superheros and sell them on e-bay?

3 days isnt much of a beta =P I did made it to lvl 11 though. Twas fun but the game will get boring with nothing esle to do but running missions and killing random spawning things all over the place.

Cool looking character, Nyght. What all can he do?

Thanks!
He just leveled to 3. His primary power set is Gravity Control, his secondary is Kinetics. His current powers include:
Lift - Lifts a single foe into the air and smashes them to the ground for falling damage.
Crush - Envelopes a single foe in a mishapen gravitational field that does damage over time while they remain imobilized.
Transfusion - Transfers a single foe's endurance and converts it into hit points when I need a health boost. It effects me and anyone I'm teamed up with.

In the beta, I've seen a guy using his powers to pick up a vehicle and throwing it at the foe for some damage. I thought it was the coolest power ever.

I think I will get it about halfway between the time the expansion is supposed to come out and now. In galaxies I was all set on getting a bunch of money just in time for the space expansion.... well that happened a looooong time ago, and much time was wasted playing a buggy game (I would love galaxies if I was just starting now and wasnt so burnt out, it is really polished now IMO)

Ok, I have to show you my heroes, too. :)

It's a bit of a bummer, though... I wasn't able to get a duster jacket put on CR. Sigh... oh well. I did the best I could.
CR is a "blaster" class... uses guns and some forms of magic.
KJ is a "scrapper" and she uses a katana and some brawling moves.
It's very cool so far, I've got them both to level 3, and solo play seems very good. I may try some grouping later on when I get bored, but for now I"m happy running about being tough and stuff.

Question for those playing.....
Can you have a true solo adventure, or do you still have to deal with whiny little trolls stealing your kills or trying to constantly start a conversation with you? Basically, can you play it single player style?

Sounds like I am not the only person who likes to play MMO's all alone :p
Haha I grouped up like 3 times total in my last 6 months of galaxies, and those were just 2 person groups with me and a friend.

I've been soloing myself. When you go on missions for your contacts, they send you to a place that is just for you or or your group. So, if you're not in a group, you basically play the missions on your own.
It's been kind of neat, there's a definite story arc, and so far all my missions have been interconnected.
Also, as of yet, no one has pestered me. The only thing bad is out on the street, where I've had people "assist" me without being asked to do so. (there's petty crime happening all over the place, and you can intervene for XP and such).
