EB Rant... My problem started back in December when I was shopping at EB and a mom came in wanting the Gameboy Advance converter for the Gamecube. (Allows you to play GBA games on your TV via the Cube). Now, she did not know the name of it and the salesman was having a hard time figuring out what she wanted, even though quite a few customers picked up on her description right away and ultimately we helped her. That wasn't too bad, but, when she bought it they tried to sell her a warranty for it. Basically telling her that since Christmas was over a week away at this point, if they opened it and it did not work, and she did not buy the warranty, EB would NOT help her in any way shape or form. Of course, I had to jump in at that point because that was pressure sales and the mom was getting frusterated herself. I asked the EB employee if what he was trying to say was that EB did not stand behind the products they were selling. They of course got mad and told me over and over again how the insurance was cheap and a great way to protect my investment. Course, I then informed the mom that Gamestop (right around the corner in the same complex) is more then happy to stand by their products. She left and I assume bought it from Gamestop.
Unfortunately, Gamestop does not sell PC games and I am forced to still shop at EB, and every time I buy a game, the insurance question comes up and every time I ask why they do not back the products they sell. You would think they would remember me after awhile... oh well.
Incidentally, I have a great EB story that happened to me and my friend today. EB's website had Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles listed for $19.95 used. My friend and I went to the store to pick it up. (used copy labeled $19.95) when we happened to notice that the new copy was listed at $9.95. We asked the clerk if the price was correct, unfortunately we interrupted some very important conversation of his with a fellow employee because he gave us an attitude and an 'Of course it is correct, duh.' So, we asked him why the new was half the price of the used, he said that the prices are correct. Oh well, we brought the new copy up to purchase and it rang up as $29.95. That started an argument of false advertising and we did try to bring it to his attention and he twice told us the price was $9.95. Finally he relented and we bought our copy... along with 6 more for $9.95 a piece. Gamestopy was happy to give us $17 for each copy, and we made $42.00. Needless to say, my friend has Crystal Chronicles and I have Jade Empire on reserve at Gamestop.
Course, I am sure EB will remember me now...
