View Full Version : City Of Heroes

So is anyone else actually in-game yet? My first hero's name is "MutantDefender" and I tend to play on the Liberty server.

I installed and signed up last night and played for a couple of hours and got my bearings...very cool game thus far...pretty streamlined/simplified, but addicting and easy to get into.

I think I'm level 3 or 4 now and have a root power, energy blast, and a power that drains health/endurance from enemies and transfers it to me. All of them have been upgraded and I've combined the upgrades as well (forget what they were called off-hand).

Just looking at the crazy things other people come up with in character creation is neat. First MMORPG where literally almost every character looks different, can't say enough how important that is.

Considering the hefty monthly fee and simplicity of the game (literally took 5 min's, if that, to install the game completely and the game loads faster than any other game I own) I would hope the dev team is going to add a lot more content and the City Of Villians expansion should most definitely add much needed things to it as well.

This has to be the first MMORPG that has NO LAG whatsoever (just a little slow around crowded areas as usual).

This game is so unique, not sure what teaming up is like yet, and there's no guild function other than Super groups, and I hear the game can get old after level 20 as it becomes a grind/repetitive from level 20 to 40 right now...could be wrong... and the instanced/locked missions are great (similar to AO).

Again I'm hoping like hell the dev team is fully committed to this game and adding content and upgrades quickly - there's a ton of potential in it and it's fun as hell as-is honestly.

Finally a MMORPG for those of us who have lives and responsibilities and can actually jump right in and play and get out without having to spend 12 hours a day playing it just to keep up with what's going on.

Then again I could be completely bored with it in a month from now, and if so, no big deal, I'll certainly get my $50 worth out of it over that time I'm sure.

Why post another new thread about CoH so close to a discussion on the same game on the same forum just below?

Oh I don't know Terry, the same reason there are 3 HL2 screenshot threads, at least two Far cry threads etc..,

Basically I was trying to get anyone's attention who is in-game currently versus tacking it on to the bottom of an older 2 page thread....seeing that there is such little traffic on this particular board still.

i will try elsewhere then if actual new posts on this graveyard of a board are a problem then. ;)

Your post seems fine to me, ST. You're talking about your experiences so far, and it's quite different from the direction the other thread took. And we definitely don't want this place looking like a "graveyard".

On topic, thanks for the information. I haven't really been following the game, but I'm kind of interested now. Maybe I'll have to give this a closer look, as DAOC is getting kind of routine these days. Might be cool to have a super hero or two.

This forum has a moderator. If I feel a discussion or thread is inappropriate I will not hesitate to notify the poster. If I need help, I'm sure I can approach the SysAdmin about getting some.

I would like to hear more about your thoughts on CoH, ST. I have typically avoided MMORPGs but I have a fondness for Super Hero/Comic Book type genres. Thanks for taking the time to post on the subject.

Honestly Terry, I left my score card at home today so I'm not sure which game title is up or down in the post count. ST wanted to create his own thread and I don't have a problem with it. You, as a consumer, have the ultimate veto. Don't read the post. As far as I know, the board staff are the only ones obligated to check every post.

i couldn't believe an argument actually started over that :p:

As for CoH, I think I'll skip it for now. I was planning on making WoW my next MMORPG but since it looks like that won't be out for a while I'm tempted to try out DAoC.

I want to try DAoC (I heard they are getting another expansion), I also wouldn't mind playing AO, but I am just not in an MMO mood right now.

DAoC is an awesome game. I've been playing since release but I've just recently gotten to the point where I can compete well in PvP combat, so it's gotten even better. And frontiers is looking to be a sweet expansion, haven't gotten on the test server yet today to check out the open beta

I am very interested in City of Heroes. Looks like a great game. Supa, talk about it anytime and I will read and find your comments of great interest. I am considering it, but the $15 monthly really makes me hesitate.
