Are there any compatibility issues with GeForce chips and Celeron processors? My wife and I are looking at putting a GeForce FX5200 PCI into her Celeron 2.4GHz desktop.

I've never heard of any issues but can not say from personal experience. I have used a couple of different nVidia GeForce cards with Intel Pentium CPUs and never had a problem - however not an Intel Celeron. Perhaps someone else here can confirm that the Celerons are just as GeForce friendly as the Pentiums.
I also take it that your mobo does not have an open AGP slot. If it does, then by all means opt for the AGP version of whatever GPU you decide on. Otherwise, there are limited choices these days for PCI cards.

I once tried to put a geforce PCI card into a HP pavillion machine with a 1.3 ghz Celeron, the card would not operate. The problem was the proprietary motherboard they used. I don't think you would have any problems with the CPU itself, but motherboards on these ready-made desktops like HP and Compaq can be fussy. Go to the manufacturer's website and see if they have any info.
I will warn you though, if you are planning to use a PCI card for gaming, you are not going to be happy with the performance.

I'm assuming it has onboard agp video and no additional agp slot to accomodate a third party video card.
If you shoot me the exact model number and name of computer I can probably find the manual online to verify if you can put a video card in there. To answer your question I'm not familiar with any known issues running that card on a celeron machine. It boils down to whether the motherboard supports a third party video card, not neccessarily a celeron issue.

And you would have to go in and disable the onboard video and make sure it has the PCI slots enabled.

Looks like the first thing we're going to need to do is upgrade her power supply. The card we're looking at wants 250w, and her power supply is only 200w. We're going to try and put a 300w in her computer.

Actually NF, judging by the recent specs I've seen, most of the newer 128 to 256 MB GPUs require a minimum 300 watt power supply. So that would be a good place to start. Otherwise, many new cards simply won't work on your system these days. All those extra clock cycles need the extra juice I guess.

It's alive! IT'S ALIVE!!!!
Ahem...
1 300w ATX power supply
1 GeForce FX5200 PCI
Both successfully installed, and giving gaming goodness back to my wife. Now we can both enjoy City of Heroes!
... that is, once we buy it.
