Yes I'm a weakling! I vowed to never buy a StafForce 3 copy protected game but I just couldnt resist the awesomeness of a submarine simulation :):

I was gonna get Act of War: Direct Action but they didnt have it.

One thing I noticed, more and more games are comming out on dvd =]

Act of War is out already? Awesome!

So, how do you like SH3? Simulations are not really my thing, but those movie clips I saw from it where pretty great. :):

Interesting that Lou Cifer isn't familiar with Star force. (http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/11/1920245&tid=93&tid=206&tid=10) I thought the devil created it after all.

Details man, details!!!

Is the gameplay really as good as everything I'm reading about it!!! Here's a review from Sub Sim. (http://www.subsim.com/ssr/sh3_rc1/sh3_review1.htm) Granted, they might be slightly inclined to lean in favor of this game (seeing that it's a sub simulation game  ) but it sure sounds like fun.

So, come on Zed... spill some details when you can!

I scored my first kill after firing 4 torpedoes and only one hit. Then some of the ships escorting the convoy chased me and depth charged me to death. The sounds are awesome! Also leaking stuff, electric failures and whatnot with crew screaming =]

Man, I love this game :):

There are difficulty things you can change to suit your needs. You can set it to be newbie friendly for casual gamer to have fun and can set it for hardcore simulations. Lots of things to change around. Right now I'm cruising with unlimited ammo. I need to practice destroying things because with manual shooting, you need to calculate your distance and time from the target and plan your shots accordingly =]

Thats wierd, I was just going to ask him why he'd avoid amazing games because of copy protection? Sheesh.

Starforce has been installed on my 4 machines here, and a whole bunch at the office, and i've never had a problem. I think this whole starforce thing is a bit silly if you ask me.

Play the games.

First of all, welcome to the forums Roland :):

And to answer your question why I dont like StarForce:

It installs special drivers for its functional purpose. I'm a firm believer when it comes to software, the less system-related the programs are, the better. Unfortunately StarForce installs drivers on an OS level. After digging through information, the drivers use IDE-interface channels (not sure if they add/change anything to them) for its ability to detect if the cd/dvd is actually in a real physical drive and not running through a virtual-drive with a mounted image. Also unlike other games, cdkey's are used by starforce to unlock the .exe and its always validating the cd/dvd whenever you start the game. This is why some starforce games actually had same cdkeys for everyone.

I see. I've never had a problem with it. But I noticed SafeDisc also installs drivers in the same location. Worse, the new SecuROM actually installs a service that runs permanently.

Ugh. Oh well.

I've had tons of problems with starforce games... I wasent able to play any star force games because of that copy protection. I'm all for copy protection btu not when it's that intrusive. Starforce interfeared with my USB ports on 2 of my systems causing the prints to become off center. Strangly enough I decided to remove the starforce drivers from device manager and use starforce cleaner and my printer worked as normal... odd.

You nailed this game right on the money Zed. I picked it up earlier this week and didn't have a chance to really get into it until today. I finished the training missions and one complete career mission.

All I can say is wow. This is the first sim game (other than MS flight sim) that overwhelmed me. The graphics are great. The gameplay seems about as real as it gets and when the action hits, it's as exciting as hell.

Coming back into port on my first career mission I was about 750 clicks out and riding one hell of a storm. Waves were crashing over the conning tower and I thought for sure my watch crew was going to disappear over the side. Guess Ubi never thought of that.

Anyways, the winds were wipping up the waves and rain was hailing down. Visibilty was about as bad as you'd see in a winter blizzard on the high seas. All of a sudden out of the darkness wells up this huge hull of a fast attack destroyer. She opened up on me with her deck guns and I crash dived as quick as I could and changed course 130 degrees. About 25 feet down I rigged her for silent running and then played a twisting turning waiting game with that baby above me as she continued to drop depth charges evey now and then. After about 30 minutes it was over. But I gotta tell you that was the most exciting 30 minutes of gaming I've had in quite some time. The external camera makes all the difference in this game. It gives you the perspective of watching a movie. And it was one helluva damn fine movie I was watching!

Can't wait to get back from Vegas and get my second mission going. By the way, so far Star Force hasn't seemed to cause me any problems which is good news too!

sounds awesome Jag, we gotta hook up for some online wolfpacks =] BTW, was this only one destroyer? I'm at a point where its impossible to go through the english channel anymore because its loaded with destroyers and the channel is not deep enough to avoid the depth charges. I have to take a longer trip through the north =P
