I'm getting freaking sick and tired of spam, not only do I have to deal with it through my e-mail, now I get it while playing Desert Combat.
I've had it pop-up while a map is loading, and while I'm playing a game I can hear the tone/beep so when I leave the game there it is, siting on my desktop

Lou,..what have you tried so far, in order to prevent it? Maybe some folks here have a few ideas, but we don't want to "double-up" on what you have already tried.

Spyware. Coincidence that it happened while playing DC.

Yep. You may want to try an alternative browser if you aren't a very alert web surfer. Since the whole world uses IE, everybody with spyware is looking for ways to exploit it, and install stuff without even prompting you.
Now if you are downloading porn dialers that is your problem :p:

also messages that say "click me for hot sex" aren't good either to click. Get adaware and run that it should fix ur problems

I ran my spyware program and it looks like it got rid of it.

Also, shut down the messenger service on Windows XP.
Start >> Run
Services.msc
Select Messenger right click, select properties and under STARTUP, select "Disabled".
Select OK, then right click again and select "STOP".
I'll almost bet you these spammers are hanging around looking for clients with the messenger ports open on those servers.

Just checked mine and thankfully Messenger's disabled already. Dunno when that was done but it wasn't by me. Maybe by James, the guy who built my rig a few months ago and updated my BIOS a couple times, too. I don't have DC, though, nor am I really interested in it, but it's still nice to know about the possibility of popups and hackers if I had Messenger enabled.
