i know its an old thread but ive had this error
its if you had or have a modification to your original call of duty I.E better weapon sounds or new guns
the only way i overcome it was by uninstalling call of duty+expansion pack and reinstalling them both
theres probably a way to manually change the setup in the config file somewhere but thats beyond me.

Hmm. I must add another error to this growing list.
Whenever I try to play single-player, COD:Unite Offensive, I get this error message just as the game loads up:
pak sum/name mismatch
Does anyone know what this means? I didn't always have this problem before.

Try reinstalling, somes like a file is missing or corrupt. make sure you are not running any mods too. Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll try that. I was hoping I wouldn't have to reinstall. I AM running mods because I play regularly online. It's just that I wanted to play the single-player and teach my gf how to play. Is there a way to switch off Mods before going in to play single-player? If not, I guess I'm reinstalling.

i take it that you copied pk3's to your CoD folder?
Move them out of the folder, if your game runs okay after that the mods are the troublemakers...

Some mods you can turn off, some you can not. It depends on which ones you are running. Look at the readme that came with them and it should tell you.
