View Full Version : My WoW story

Ok, time for my WoW story…

I've kind of been wandering around for the lat level and a half, looking for somewhere to grind, with decent quests and all that. I finished up my last quest in Duskwood last week, so I was ready for something new. I went to Stranglethorn Vale, and didn't really care for the jungle setting and all that, so I was roaming.

In my quest log, I had a couple of quests that would take me to Theramore, in Dustwallow Swamp on the Western Continent, so I decided to wander over there and see what was up. When I got there, I cashed in my quests, and picked up a few more, which would take me through the Barrens, one of the Horde's zones, and into Thousand Needles (an appropriate name if I ever saw one), another Horde zone, to the south of the Barrens. I figured what the hell, it was something to do, right? This pic is hard to see, but there were 3 griffons hovering on top of one another.

Griffon weirdness (http://www3.telus.net/public/cheedor/griffs.jpg)

Well, I had several deaths over the course of my little adventure, lol. The funny thing is, not one of them was within Horde territory, they all happened near Theramore. I got jumped by some near-40 mobs on a couple of occasions, and then a quest target got the jump on me because I accepted a quest to fight him without preparing (my mistake, I know), and three of his buddies joined in before I knew what was happening, lol. Theramore has a nice little graveyard just outside of town, in case you're interested.

So, I decided to continue on my way to the Barrens (got jumped again south of the quest death) but I eventually made my way there. It was nice to move from 36-40 lev mobs (I was 33 at this time, but leveled during this adventure) to 27-30 level mobs in the Barrens. My quest was to find a place called High Rest, where the Horde breeds the wyvern they ride (like our griffs) and get 10 venom sacs from them. I made my way through a ton of beasts, including cats, hyenas, elder serpents and the odd stone elemental. Once in awhile, I ran into a Horde player, but since I was high level most of them had a look, then went on their way. One lev 38 troll followed me around for awhile, slapping me and clucking like a chicken, but I wasn't about to take the bait. I was here for other things and didn't want to engage my PVP flag. He eventually left when he realized I wasn't about to fight him. I killed my wyverns and completed that quest.

Then a potential disaster happened. I was trying to sneak by some NPC guards near a Tauren camp, and wasn't successful. Thousand Needles is a canyon area, with spires all over the place, and narrow passages in a lot of areas. So I was close to the guard. I figured I'd probably draw aggro, but decided to try to run by anyway. I had accidentally left my cat in "defend" mode, so when the guard hit me, he attacked the guard and turned on my PVP flag, lol. So I ran like hell, around a corner, and then feigned death. The nice thing about feign death is that it lasts 6 minutes, and the PVP flag last five. So I waited until my flag turned off, and away I went.

At least I picked a shady spot to "die" (http://www3.telus.net/public/cheedor/dead.jpg)

Then I came across this really cool place called Shimmering Flats, at the far south end of 1KN. The ground was blasted and shiny white, like drought areas in the desert, and it reminded me of the place in the Mojave where they test drive high speed cars. As I was killing and exploring, I suddenly came across this:

"Pod" Racer (http://www3.telus.net/public/cheedor/race.jpg)

I laughed my ass off when I saw this, and I immediately picked up four quests that could be completed in the immediate area. So, I did some grinding for a few hours, came away with some nice loot, about 60 pieces of heavy leather, a ton of XP, and I dinged to 34 when I cashed in some of my quests. In fact, all the quests I cashed in after my time at SF, got me about a quarter of the way into my next lev.

So, Vilya showed up, and took me down to Gadgetzan, another goblin city, where I was able to griff. It's a bit high lev for me yet, but I now know where to go when I get to about 38.

All in all, it was a pretty fun evening (http://www3.telus.net/public/cheedor/moon.jpg)

And here's some other pics from previous adventures. Enjoy!

Cool story and pics !!

Ironic that you've mentioned Gadgetzan.

If anyone wants to trade stuff or money between their Horde and Alliance characters, Gadgetzan is probably the best/only way to do it.

There's an auction house in there, which Horde and Alliance both can use. And, it's virtually unused.... compared to the other two in more reachable areas of the world.

I took my mage (lvl35) down there from Ratchet. What I did was to swim the coastline from Ratchet all the way to the country of Tanaris. And from there it was a simple run straight West across the sand into Gadgetzan.

I did this because I wanted to see how feasible it would be to get a very low level character out to Gadgetzan. Turns out that it's VERY doable. I did run into some lvl18 crabs along the way, which could cause a problem for low level characters. However, I believe that these could be easily avoided. There were other creatures, such as Mulocs and some underwater crocs, but avoiding them was even easier by virtue of how far out I swam. Just make sure you don't go into the deep blue part, because that's considered ocean and fatigue will kill you if you're there too long.

In order to give stuff from a character of one faction to another, just have both characters standing inside the auction house in Gadgetzan. Then put your item up for auction with a buyout price of maybe 2 copper. Then immediately log out and then log back in as your other character and buy the item. The only risk is if someone else is there and buys your super low cost item before your other character can. Not much of a problem though, since the whole town is virtually empty of other players.

If you want to give money, then you'd have to buy or loot an item (or items) worth some coin, do the auction thing and have your other character sell those items for money.

It's not a perfect way, but it's probably the ONLY way to trade things between Horde and Alliance characters.
