From IGN:

Ubisoft announced today they have launched a new mod section on the official Far Cry community site. As Far Cry fans know, the Sandbox Editor included in the game contains powerful editing tools, capable of morphing the game environment and making whatever kind of "Paradise Gone Wrong" shooter the imagination can come up with.

The new mod channel will showcase player-built mods as well as provide support for those unfamiliar with Far Cry's Sandbox Editor. There is also support with making custom maps using the CryENGINE, which powers the game's massive outdoor areas. The engine lets you edit levels and jump into the action with a single command, cutting down the delay between tinkering with enemy placement and actually blasting them to pieces.

Excellent news for an excellent game. Now bring on the mods. Hopefully that mod team that jumped from Half-Life 2 to Far Cry has something good cooking up.
