OH, yeah? Didn't stop me from getting 4 offers for an auto loan, 2 ads for new porn sites, and a get-rich-quick scheme in my Yahoo! inbox a few minutes ago...

Nor did it stop the umpteen offers for Viagra by mail, hot dating services (a.k.a. hookers online) in my area, outright porn links, super cheap but totally illegal Microsoft software downloads, sleazy cable TV signal decoder come-ons, con artist pyramid / ponzi schemes or the rest of the scumbag crap from stealthed, fake e-mail addressees with no working removal links that showed up in my inbox this week.

But at least it's a start and perhaps extreme media hype, persistent mass consumer outcries and stepped-up pressure by law enforcement agencies and the DOJ, along with a few high profile arrests, convictions and severe punishments will finally begin to abate the growth in spam and maybe even begin to put a noticeable dent in it.

The point is that with these new laws in place, we are already seeing some initial results - which is better than doing nothing at all.

I have no idea, in all honesty, if there are any Canadian laws regarding Spam, but if there isn't one, I hope they enact one soon. That being said, my ISP has started using spam filters that has cut down the amount of spam I receive daily from about 20-30 a day, down to 1-3 a day. I know it's not a solution, but I'll take it for a stop-gap solution.

Perhaps you missed my reference to "the rest of the scumbag crap from stealthed, fake e-mail addressees with no working removal links" that covers all the other spam I get every day.
