MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (AP) -- Federal health officials have seized several dangerous pests called Giant African Land Snails from Wisconsin classrooms and have started a national search for the creatures, which reproduce rapidly, destroy plants and can transmit meningitis.

You could marinate and tenderize that thing for a week and still need a chainsaw to cut the meat.

Is that the word of expirience I see? :)

Not with giant, poisonous snails but with smaller varieties and other crustaceans of all kinds.

For instance, a medium-sized Conch in the Bahamas needs to be removed from its shell, thoroughly cleaned, cut into thin strips and then marinated in pure pepper juices in a clear bowl or plastic bag in the searing sun all day just to be tenderized enough for a salad. Even then, the meat is still pretty chewy. Good but chewy.

If however, if you make Conch Chowder (similar to spicy Cajun / Creole seafood gumbo ) or Cracked Conch Fritters (breaded and deep fried), you can cook them sooner after normal tenderizing with perhaps a quick marinade and the meat will be a lot more tender. It's quite good when caught fresh and prepared properly - usually served with plenty of fresh key lime wedges, fried (sweet baby) plantain bananas and a heady version of island-style dirty rice (with pepper, black beans and local sausage) along with a chilled St. Paulie Girl beer on the dock - at sunset - with a beautiful young woman at your side - and your best mates nearby.

Now THAT my friend is living.

Imagine how those would react to salt? You would probably hear them scream!
Must... find... snail.... put... salt..... on them!

Bring an extra large bag of salt though Tavo, and maybe some thick gloves.
Those things are HUGE and they're poisonous.
