I ordered my new PC which i will use for Professional Editing & Gaming in my free time. It has a P4 550 @ 3.4 which i imagine will easily get to 3.8+ with my asus P5AD2 Deluxe Motherboard. It also has a Gigabyte X800XT PE for games (thankyou dad) and 2x512Mb DDR PC4200 RAM (sweet). Anyway, i was wondering, what game(s) has (have) the best graphics out on the market today. There is FarCry, Halflife 2, DOOM, Men of Valor, Medal of Honer.etc. Which game (doesn't need to be the games i mentioned above) has the best graphics. I'm guessing HalfLife 2 but is it the best Graphics...

Thankyou for any comments.

By the way, the computer i'm currently using has a Athlon 2000+, 768 DDR133 RAM, 128MB XFX FX5200 Piece of **** GFX Card. My family is like any other average australian family so you can imagine how sweet this new Comp will be for me. I'll never have to try and tweak the graphics settings to see what my card can get up to, i just Bloody Max the Bastard.
Don't forget about my question.

Far Cry, Halflife 2, Doom 3...... yeah, those. You wanting games with the best graphics so that you can edit them and make mods or something ??

Yeah, you should have no trouble playing any of those maxed right out. Personally, I'd start with HL2. I hear Doom is very fancy looking, but fails to stack up gameplay-wise (i.e., enter dark-ish room, move about until triggering the monsters to appear "suddenly," shoot the bejesus out of them, rinse and repeat...)

Yep, definitely HL2. Far Cry is up there too.

I would say Doom III too, except the damn character models look so damn blocky.

doom 3 will looks really nice maxed out on your system. Of course theres farcry and half-life 2 also. Look at the screens to see what appeals to you more.

I think the best graphics I have seen to date is FarCry, bar none.

As said, Doom 3 is too blocky, and the textures are horrible.

HL2, I haven't played. But from screens and videos I have seen it looks like they just have nice water. Again, the textures are a little bleak. Bump-mapping is good, but appears to be overused in some situations.

Just my $0.02.

Of course, I haven't seen HL2 yet so take that with a grain of salt.

yeah HL2 has the best character models (on high details) I've ever seen - and really impressive outdoor/large level textures from a distance (photogenic quality).

But like doom 3, when you get up close to a lot of items the textures are low res, blotchy, silly 1998 looking things - including doors, radios, books etc.., it looks ridiculous how out of place they are compared to the other high res features.

So that said I agree - Far Cry does have the best over-all eye candy quality on high settings that I've seen to date.

But HL2's characters and environments/atmosphere are mighty impressive.

Doom 3's blocky heads and pitch dark corridors kind of take away from any real graphic "ooh ah" factor. But on ultra high settings it stands toe-to-toe with HL2 and FC aside from the character models.

I've played all the games i mentioned and you've mentioned except for Half Life to which i will buy next time i go into the city. Graphics look **** on the system im currently using. The reason i mentioned Men of Valor (MOH is ****) is becuase the vegetation in those war games are usually really good. That's the only reason the computer i currently have struggles with war games. I love the vegetation though. I can't beleive on my new computer i will be able to watch 3DMark 2005 smoothly. That's good as.
