A lot of people are having this problem...I get it once in a while, but nothing like what some people are experiencing. It doesnt seem to matter how powerful your video card is, or how much of a beast your gaming rig is. This site (http://www.blep.net/hl2stutter/)does an excellent job of tracking the problem. It seems Valve is working on a fix as it is related to the way the game loads textures on the fly. The answer, it appears, is going to be preloading the textures. This will probably cause an increase in the load times. I can live with load times, I would rather have improved performance with no hiccups.

VTM bloodlines suffers from these issues as well, so hopefully they are going to implement a fix too.

I solved this issue by lowering texture and model details from high to medium...smooth as butter now honestly...I also had this issue and still do with Doom 3 regardless.

I think this was related to ATI cards also - funny enuff since HL2's preferred card was ATI. But again it runs fine for me now after doing that (which also coincided with me re-installing my video drivers, reformatting a new HDD and re-installing XP, and NOT installing the stupid Windows SP2 update). :)

Everything I have read is indicating that it doesnt matter what card you have. Nvidia owners are just as likely to have the problem as ATI. The problem is the way the engine loads textures. A fix is apparently coming out tomorrow. You may be able to go back to high level texture with the patch S.T.

I have stutters for about 30 seconds after a load. It doesn't bother me too much - you usually spend awhile fighting during a section.

Yeah I understand - and hope that's the case - i only get the occassional stuttering upon entering/loading a new level also - but just for a few sec's.

I thought I read where it was an ATI issue though that's all I meant..not that it matters as you're right, it should affect any card playing it.
