In light of some discussion on upcoming MMO games, I thought I'd post one, that will not have a subscription fee.

Due in Sept. 04', Guild Wars was covered in just a few pages in the recent PCG issue. I checked out the website, and was surprised to see a Demo coming in May, to coincide with E3. Check out the Website, and read a little on the concept. This looks like it may be a positive direction for future MMO games.

* On a side note... if I'm late to the party on this game, well.......are you really all that surprised?

Nice pics Fzoul. Looks a little like the Gothic series.

I like the concept of an MMO without a perpetual pay forever plan. I'd buy the game just for the experience if I knew I didn't have to pay monthly fees. Even if the retail price was a little higher than most new releases.

Hopefully no monthly fees is the wave of the future. However as long as thousands of gamers are willing to pay on a regular (monthly) basis, it will be a wave long in generating any real speed perhaps.

I had a look at the website. I came across this little tidbit under "Game Information and Features"...

Unique Streaming Technology

ArenaNet's unique streaming technology forever eliminates the concept of patching a game. You don't have to wait a month for the next big patch to experience new content. Instead, the game constantly and intelligently streams new content to your computer in the background while you play. The world can change continually. This allows us to build a much more dynamic game world than any that has existed before...

Sounds alot like "Steam" if you ask me. I have no problem with this kind of technology as long as I control when access and udpates are made. We'll have to wait and see exactly what it turns out to be.

Very impressive graphics! Wasn't this the MMORPG by those ex-Blizzard guys, or am I mixing it up again?

I do wonder what kind of businessplan they have, I don't see how you can run a decent MMO game without paying subscribers and still get a profit. And that Steam like thingy is something I would like to know more about, before I let it on my system.

Part was done by ex-blizzard guys (ArenaNet sounds a lot like Battle.net doesnt it?). This is more of a diablo 2 type world, not really an MMO the way I understand it. It is made by the same people who do lineage 2. I will definately be trying it out.
