source engine text problem

im having a weird problem with the source engine, any text (let it be menu or in game) appears really choppy and hard to read, i have a nvidia mx 4000, and it gives me the same problem in both vampire masquerade and cs source. with cs source it doesnt bother me but with vampire masquerade, i have to read a lot of text, and i dont want to sit there trying to decypher what it says.
