So... who here decided what to get? With EverQuest 2, World of Warcraft, and Matrix Online in January, not to mention D&D Online next year I think, things are looking hot and heavy on the wallet.

Right now I have EverQuest 2 preordered at ebgames for instore pickup. I might get World of Warcraft depending on how good the gameplay is passed lvl 30. I dont want no warcraft fanboyism to judge the game, not to mention WoW has no voice-overs for NPC's. EverQuest 2 beta has spoiled me and I'm not sure if I want to play another new MMORPG without good voice acting. EQ2 voice acting is amazing.

I'm also beta testing Matrix Online right now and since I signed one of those NDA things, I cant say much. But I will say this is that the game is rather interesting and has new approach to combat and such =]

Comes down to:

Do you want PVP or not?

They both will be solid games. WoW will have PvP and EQ2 will probally be better on the PVE end over the lifespan of the game.

definition of "Lifespan of MMORPG"

1. Until the next big title comes out.

2. The game is a flop.

well in WoW you can forget about haveing an organized guild outside the game, much less having your real life buddies play with you since you cant even choose your own server to play on. I was only able to choose East with PvP. And I doubt they'll fit 100,000+ on one server :): Dont forget as there is definitely gonna be ablot of new people to the game :scared:

Guess I'll stick with EQ2 for now and the new DAoC expansion

WoW will have a lot of n00bs to the MMO genre. I think EQ2 is going to be a better playing experience to the hardcore MMO player. I know I will be playing EQ2 (if I do pick one, I am having fun in SWG right now).

My local Babbage's has EQ2 listed for release on 11/10. This sound right? I didn't realize it was that close.

Any "official" word on per-month charges? Will there be game time cards like in EQ? I don't like using my credit cards for monthly gaming charges.

It sounds very good. I really enjoyed EQ and I plan on at least trying EQ2. How's the gameplay supposed to be for people like me who will not always have time to get into large groups and stay with them for extended periods of time? Decent "single-player" promise?

Thanks for any info.

Well Zed, As my first reply indicated... depends what you want. The community/PVE aspect is fully what EQ is shooting for. That honestly is not for me. I like faster leveling games that have a decent-good PVP system. WoW will be more along those lines.

I was able to choose which server I was playing on... Its just kinda hidden.

You have to choose the option "recommend a server" Then it autochooses one for you. However you are now on a screen where you can choose manually the server you want.

While your judging people opinions Zed. Don't forget rule number 1.

Wizards first rule: People Are Stupid.

People can be made to believe any lie because they want to believe it is true, or because they are afraid that it is true.

heh, I see you been reading =P

I be playing WoW beta right now so I know =P

And yes, I just did find the option to change the server. Me thinks they hid it too good. And when I chose to play on PvP server, they dumped me into normal server lol.

You also have to remember something... with PvP comes class ballance which leads to nerfs. I've went through too much of this with DAoC and this game has the best PvP out lol =]

none, will get guild wars because I'm a cheap ass :P I'm a bit afraid of random newbs being retarded on guild wars but from what I saw in the beta there has been no one doing anything stupid and all of the names have to be at least 2 words and only letters with the first letters being caps nothing else.

So I'll see people like Lord Champlain not L0rD S|-|4mpla1n!!111!one!1!!one!!11!

I'm also getting GW because I'm also a cheap ass. Liking the game a lot also has something to do with it. I've been looking around for a pre-order box in order to participate in the closed week-end beta events, but the store I usually go to is sold out. I'll look harder.

I will get to play this week-end, either way. I just want to get my hands on my own damned box.

I'm definitely going to be looking for EQ2 in a couple days. It sounds like there is a lot of depth to the game, which is definitely something I'm looking forward to.

The only one I'm really interested in is D&D Online. But the world setting and a few other design issues have me wanting to wait for the game to be out for a month or so until some unbiased player reviews start flooding the Internet.

Aside from that game, I might be interested in Middle Earth Online, also being developed by Turbine.

The D&D Online could be interesting. I hear they'll be using the D&D 3.5 rule set. I wonder how they'll make the real time conversion of this correctly =]

All I've ever played is single player shooters, but I read a lot of posts about online games; and the acronyms are killing me. What is PvP and PvE? Edward.

PvP is Player Versus Player combat. Where you are attacking other (real) people over the internet.

PvE is Player Versus Environment. This means any nearby monsters and other computer controlled NPC's (non player characters).

Thanks, Donjo. I suspected that was what PvP was, but the PvE had me stumped. One of these days, after I hit the Lottery, I'm going to have high-speed cable and will be able to check out this whole world of online gaming, myself. Edward.

which is why I bought one.

I forgot about D&D Online, since I'm playing pen&paper d&d with some friends I hope that that will be good, I liked the NWN system it's just that NWN never had a good online campaign imo. A few things from NWN might need to be changed but I loved that game. Only reason I don't play any more is because 1) no hard drive space and 2) during the time I first had it I had reformatted so many times and replayed the first "act" or the campaign so many times it isn't funny.
