Hey! What's game are you playing these days?? What game are you looking forward to??

Right now I'm playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic...again.

Can't wait for Front Mission 4!! Played the demo and it's awesome!! It's a good challenge, cool storyline, better battle mechs. Got the free demo from the Square Enix site (www.square-enix-usa.com).

Welcome aboard Kelia!
Unfortunately my gaming time is limited of late. All I can manage right now is FPS type games because I can always pick up with them where ever I left off last time, even if it's a couple weeks between games. Right now Far Cry is getting my attention. I sorely miss some online fun with BF1942. I'm a BF1942 junkie and always will be. Those are the 2 which get my attention for now.

I'm still so far behind that I'm just now getting around to finishing Max Payne 1 for the first time. At least I have the brand new Syberia 2 demo downloaded, installed and ready to play this weekend. But after that, it's back to a long backlog list of great PC games including action, adventure, RPG and hybrid titles.

Of course there is a benefit to falling so far behind every one in awhile. You get to stock-up on ONLY the very best of the best in every category, all fully patched and at bargian bin prices most of the time. Then you have a huge stack of 100% gaming goodness to OD on for the next few months solid.

Oh the life of the game addict... tis a topsy turvy one we lead.

Cheers, Terry

UT2K4 for some action gaming, and lots of Crusader Kings (prequel to Europa Universalis 2) and thats about it. I played the City of Heroes beta but it ended. I loved that game so I'll be picking that up in a week or two after launch (so they can fix any problems if they pop up). I'm also waiting for RalliSport Challenge 2 for the xbox. I'm going nuts waiting so long =[

Hey, welcome to the board Kelia!

I'm currently playing some Painkiller and UT2004, which I am very much addicted to. I usually play that with my wife for at least a couple of hours a night. I also picked up Crimson Skies for the XBox last week since the price dropped on it, and I'll probably play a little of that this weekend. I also have Far Cry waiting in the wings, and I am going to try to get back into BFV, though I may wait for patches to be released that clean up some annoyances.

Not really anticipating anything at the moment, I have too much of a backlog as it is. Maybe Doom III, but that's about it.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to find time for my favourite hobby. I am being drug kicking and screaming into Union politics of all things. I have served my local union as a shop steward for quite a while and was elected to a minor executive position in the last election. I just returned form the annual convention where I was being inundated with requests to run for vice president of my labour Union. Hard to say: "Sorry I can't, too busy with my Call Of Duty clan"
I have been playing Toca: RD2. I also got Far Cry just the other day and bought UT 2K4 SE on release day and have been loving it. I also, like Terry missed out on a few great titles which I have recently picked up Splinter Cell and NWN to name 2. BF 1942 remains a fixture on my HD as does CoD. Throw in my regular round of Tiger Woods 2004 with my brother=Too many games, too little time. I have to stop buying for a while.

Right now I'm playing (or replaying in some cases) Far Cry, Tiger Woods 2004, NHL 2004, KOTOR, Call of Duty and MS Flight Sim 2004.

Like many of you, there's too many games sitting on my hard drive and not enough hours in the day!

It's a good thread anyway. I just finished Freedom Fighters and I may post a short review later. Don't really know where I'm going next. I've been looking around for Divine Divinity but haven't seen it in the stores I've been in.

I try tons of demos & buy alot of games (pc) but till they come out & blow away the 1's I've played for 5 yrs (q3) 3yrs (sof2) & the mods of both , I won't be happy . As any thing i've played or bought during these years hasn't gotten the play time these favorites have & I always end up going back to them & feeling robbed for the $ the newer 1's cost .
Lots more has been brought to the table these past couple of years for sure grafically & better game enjines etc. but still the others seem to hold me more & will 'till one finally does come that changes my opinion , thats the 1 I'm waiting for

I just started playing it, but it seems ok. I have never been a big fan of games with steep learning curves, takes the fun out of it for me. Guess that's why I stick to Pirate games. :):

I had Divine Divinity on back order for several months at Gamestop and finally just gave up. I did find it still for sale at www.gogamer.com though. It was $19.95 USD plus a FedEx deliver charge. Also found a replacement copy of Outcast there. But it's the CD-only version in a plastic book-style DVD case. Still worth it if you like non-linear 3D adventures. DD however was the normal retail boxed edition with a printed manual.

I just finished Far Cry, (what a good game!) and I don't know what to get, next. I guess I could catch up with the war shooters, BF1942, and Call of Duty, but I really prefer the Sci-Fi FPS's. For the moment, I suppose I'll replay Halo since I've upgraded my computer since I played it the first time.

I guess I'm looking forward to Doom III and Half-Life II, although the magic is already eroded by all the delay and hype; but what I'd really like to see is another game like Far Cry, which just pops up and surprises everybody. Edward.

Heya Edward -

Don't forget S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost. That one also sounds like a really good new FPS on the horizon but it will have some light adventure and RPG elements. However, Raven's Quake 4 will be a pure FPS from what I've heard. It will follow Id's Doom 3 using the same new 3D engine.

Since I have been out of touch for so long, please forgive any repetitions. But have you also played Clive Barker's horrifically good Undying, RTCW GOTY, NOLF GOTY & NOLF 2, StarTrek Voyager: Elite Force 1 & 2, AvP 2, Halo PC, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, and Unreal 2?

Also, for totally immersive FPS stealth, Thief 1 & 2 are still very hard to beat IMO.

And in case you never played the two best SP-only FPS / RPG hybrids, System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are simply great games. Even better for you, they are both sci-fi based with terrific stories.

Cheers, Terry

Well, I haven't played Undying, Star Trek Voyager, or either Elite Force games; but I've played all the others at least twice, each. Is Star Trek Voyager a FPS, and how old is it? Maybe I'll give it a try. Anyway, thanks for your input, Terry. Edward.

Well, I played the Elite Force games and I enjoyed them. They aren’t anything special, that’s for sure, but they are a nice diversion.

Basically, they are formulaic FPS’s which really don’t offer anything new, other than the fact it is set in the Star Trek universe using Star Trek weapons. I don’t find anything wrong with that personally. One word of warning however, is that both Elite Force games are pretty darn short. Given your experience with FPS’s, I would say you could get through both games in two weekends (one weekend each game).

Yes, they are fairly short but quite good and at least the original is a real bargain binner these days. I believe they both use the Quake 3 / Quake 3 Arena Engine from Id and do have a nice twist - the holodeck. They also have a number of very good, in-game scripted sequences ala' Half-Life and you can actually roam around the ship in between away missions. The holodeck is used for SP training and the MP "holomatch" mode.

The actual titles are:

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (2000 from Activision and Raven)
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/stveliteforce/
http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/p,3/gameId,2536/

and

Star Trek: Elite Force II (2003 from Activision and Ritual)
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/steliteforce2/
http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/p,3/gameId,10170/

As you can see, they dropped Voyager from the title of the sequel as the game takes place aboard a new ship (The Enterprise-E) that follows the final episode of Voyager but still centers on the same basic lead character. In the first game you get to board a number of alien vessels also caught in the same deep space vortex / graveyard for spaceships in the Alpha Quadrant, which include Borg and Klingon amongst others. The away team missions are varied in terms of style and objectives too - not just all run & gun.

As for Clive Barker's Undying, it is not sci-fi based but horror / the occult and is one of the very best FPS in many years. It too is still sold at places like Gamestop at a discount price and I highly recommend it to all true fans of the genre. It has a very high immersion / fear factor with some terrific level designs and enemies to go along with a gripping story by Barker. Some of the weapons / items are traditional but some are very original - especially the magic spells. But they still basically act as weapons, so you can easily learn to use them. There's a lot of thick, creepy atmosphere in the game, some great cut scenes, good music and voice acting, wonderful effects and it's pretty long by today's standards. It is however SP only with very limited replay value.

Cheers, Terry

Yeah but even in the fast moving world of electronic entertainment, you wouldn't call a new TV show that debuted a couple of years ago old just because they already made a spin-off out of it. That is especially true of games or shows that are still actively selling and very popular like BF 1942 and WC3.

The game I'm mostly focusing on right now is Chaser. I'd gotten about halfway through it on my first foray into it, tried the giveall weapons cheat two or three times at one time (to restock ammo in a very intense level, basically) but then it screwed up my saves so that if I reloaded a save with a weapon in hand the weapon would disappear and I couldn't get any to appear in my hand at all! When I installed the 1.49 and 1.50 patches all seemed ok at first cuz weapons would appear in reloads but then after a short time the troubles started again so I just uninstalled it as completely as possible and then reinstalled it and its patches and then started playing it again. I'm not quite as far into it as before but getting there. If anyone's played it I left off at the Lighthouse level and am now back up to the Run Away level in Montack City. At least it goes a lot faster now that I know what to do and where all to go.
