Come on guys. I'm feeling kind of alone here. Don't we have anyone on these boards that like adventure games?? Please respond so that I don't have to share my interests alone!!!

I used to play Myst games back in the day, never had a chance to try anything new that recently came out though.

i used to love adventure games. Sadly they became scarce and what ones were coming out were published under the Adventur Company, who did some shady things with their copyright protection. I tried Broken Sword 3, only to have it continously crash on the PC.

The last full adventur game I played was Syberia, which was excellent. I hope the second one is or will be released on the xbox.

The original Myst I remember playing in my bedroom at my parents' house a year or so after it was first released, on my Mac Performa 630CD (33mhz cpu and 8MB of system RAM baby for only $2000).

I had only played the NES and arcade games prior to that, and it blew me away once I saw the potential of the PC as a gaming platform.

I wrote in the paper journal it came with and everything to solve the puzzles and track my progress. The "ages" idea in the storyline was very creative and interesting.

I got Myst: Exile free with a video card a couple of years ago and played through a bit of it initially, until getting bored. High res landscapes and point-and-click action were just not that exciting anymore. The story seemed fine, but the puzzles seemed even more disconnected from the storyline than the original game and the environments got boring quickly. Riven was a neat game for it's time but also was just a huge chore of headache-inducing puzzles where solutions were not born of intelligence, wit or good detective work it seemed.

But the original Myst is one of my all-time favorites (top 5) for what it meant for PC games. Gamespot included a little blurb i wrote to them about it when they did their Best PC Games Of All-Time feature a year or two ago. (I wanted to make sure they included it)

TLJ couldn't hold my attention for too long either. I may pick up Beyond Good & Evil or the Syberia series at some point though.

I never understood the appeal of Myst from a gaming perspective, but I love adventure games. In fact, I have a small collection on my PC: The entire Kings Quest series, Gabrial Knight 3, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Longest Journey and a few more I am surely forgetting about. Unfortunately it is a vastly dying genre with Syberia 2 being the lone quality title in the past year or so. I cannot even get my older titles to run properly anymore with Win XP.

Cap'N - Just for the record Syberia 2 is out on the X-Box, I saw it yesterday while at Gamestop for $19.99.

I've got a few installed on my system right now...

Myst (original)
The Longest Journey
Syberia
Syberia 2

Every one of them are excellent.

I'd still like to get my hands on Grim Fandango and Beyond Good & Evil.

But, it is a somewhat under developed genre. Back when dinosaurs still walked the cooling Earth, all I played on my Vic-20 were adventure text-only games.

I'm curious, Mara. Have you ever tried a good RPG yet ??

Something like Baldur's Gate, Morrowind or Knights of the Old Republic. They do consist a great deal of storylines and adventure. Pure adventure games are great, but don't be afraid to expand your field a little, even if you're not interested in high-paced shooters.

Right now I've got 53 full games & expansions installed on my system, along with 15 demos. Depending on what mood I'm in I've got quite a variety of genres to choose from in an instant.

yep, I tried Baldur's Gate. I still mean to conquer that game someday. I even printed off your instructions about group combat. That's where I really suck big time. I'll keep trying.

You can change the difficulty setting to Easy at any time. And things like changing "Rest until healed" helps to keep the game running smooth.

Use one of the editors available to buff up your characters with a lot more Hit Points. You'll die less often.

I don't know which BG game you have, but I'm sure I can offer help to get you through it.

I love adventure games, from platform adventure to things like Myst. BG, to me at least is an RPG.

I have played very few adventure games but I'd like to get into them more. They usually are visually amazing (technically and artistically) and sport good storylines. I've only played Riven, one of the older King's Quest games and Space Quest 4.

I am eargerly awaiting Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. I'd get Myst IV if my rig had a DVD drive. I would also like to get my hands on The Curse of Monkey Island, but the game is proving to be very hard to find.

you had to turn my nice and pure FPS thread into a dirty rpg thread. Damn you. (JK)
