The DVD for The Animatrix was an interesting "cool" idea, and seemed appropriate at the time of the 2nd Matrix movie....

With so much riding on both Universal's legacy and Sommers' $150 million film, one of the most expensive in the studio's history, Universal has launched a marketing campaign that kicks off with the DVD release of The Monster Legacy Collections 10 days before the film opens on May 7. The campaign will include promotions with Carl's Jr., the American Red Cross and Toys "R" Us in New York's Times Square; Van Helsing attractions at Universal Studios in Hollywood and Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in New York; a Van Helsing interactive video game; an animated prequel to the film on DVD; and a vast array of consumer product lines based on both the classic and newly created monsters, as well as the Van Helsing character, played by Hugh Jackman in the movie, the trade paper reported.

Universal will release The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, an animated prequel to the upcoming summer SF movie The Chronicles of Riddick, on DVD on June 15, the Dark Horizons Web site reported. Peter Chung (The Animatrix) is behind Dark Fury, which bridges the precursor movie Pitch Black with Riddick, which is due June 11.
Dark Fury centers on the character of Riddick, who is captured by bounty hunters and must battle soldiers of fortune and vicious creatures in the lethal slaughter cells of a massive starship, the site reported.
