View Full Version : London Riots - Idiots!

Here in the UK, London has seen it's third night of serious rioting, with property being damaged, and people being hurt. What started out as a peaceful protest against the shooting of a man, soon escalated into a full on riot. There have also been occurrences of smaller scale rioting in several other cities here too since Saturday night. Obviously the people who are rioting are not trying to put a point across in demonstration, they are just idiots who are taking advantage of something to kick off and act like morons.

The only people these rioters are hurting are the other residents in their areas. The long term implications of their actions are clearly something they don't care about. Increased insurance prices, lowering of house prices, reduced sense of safety, increased police presence etc. all are going to impact on the residents and business community in the affected areas. Add in the immediate effects, such as pure fear and loss of property, by the actions of the rioters, and they are doing nothing but hurting their own communities.
Regards the "cause" of the rioting, it's been claimed that the man who was shot did not discharge his firearm, as was initially claimed in the media, but officers are allowed to fire if there is a threat to human life, so even if he didn't fire, his actions could have implied the officers or public were in imminent danger. At the end of the day, what the hell was he doing with a firearm in the first place, in a country where gun ownership is illegal. Play with matches and you're gonna get burned.
I'm hoping the rioting doesn't spread any more than what it has, and the police get to grips with the rioters. It seems like there are always trouble makers willing to latch on to protests and turn them ugly. The recent student protests saw the same, as did many other peaceful protests too. They should re-introduce the stocks for those caught rioting, and let the community deal with their punishment:mad:

You know, I don't understand what looting and destruction of property have to do with a protest. Bloody hooliganism! I've seen the same thing here in the states; people stealing from and destroying their own neighborhoods.
I don't get it. The police should take out their billy clubs and knock some sense into those thugs.

.
Here in America, even a legal gun owner would be crazy to threaten police officers with his firearm.
If you point a gun at the cops, you better be prepared to die.
Regarding the so-called "protesters" in London, they are nothing more than common criminals running around stealing, vandalizing, and committing arson.
They too deserve what's coming to them.
Cheers, Terry

Last night was the fourth night of mass rioting here in the UK, it was relatively quiet in London, but the trouble had spread to other cities around England. Our Prime Minister has promised swift and decisive action against the idiots, but that's a bit late coming now.
Looking at the footage on the news, it seems that most of these rioters fit the chav bill. Here in the UK we suffer from a breed of youth called the chav, and these are kids who don't give a damn about anyone or anything. From general anti social behaviour to serious criminal activity, these chavs just make life hell for ordinary people, like those innocent people caught up in the riots who have been scared witless and/or have lost property.
It may be stereotyping, but if the cap fits these dumb fecks should wear it! Most of the rioters, from what I could see, were young men and boys, who were hiding their faces under hoodie jackets, and wore the stereotypical "chav uniform".
I feel really old when I look at today's kids, and see how many of them show absolutely no regard for others in their community or respect for their elders. I'm only in my late 30's, and even when we were kids, if we backchatted adults we expected a thick ear at the least (we got it double if our parents found out too). Kids today know that they have the upper hand, and there is little members of the community can do to protect themselves against these mobs of wannabe gangsters.
The parents of these kids deserve a bloody good hiding too! In the rioting footage, there were really young kids getting involved in the trouble, where the hell were the parents, and why weren't they doing their jobs? I know that there are many kids out there in the UK who do live their lives without causing misery to others, but it seems that these kids are slowly becoming the minority.
I'm quite strict with my kids, and I'm hopefully teaching them what's right and wrong, and how to handle themselves when opportunities to do wrong are presented to them, I wish I could say the same of many other parents. It seems that there is a generation growing up without any substantial parenting being given.
My sister was having her honeymoon in London, after her wedding, they were spending two weeks taking in the tourist attractions, and doing some shopping. They've now come home early because of the trouble. My Dad's family in Manchester are getting worried because the trouble has been flaring over there too. When I heard that there had been trouble in Nottingham, I did get slightly worried myself, as that's only just over the border from us in South Yorkshire.
I remember the miners strikes back in the 80's, when the police came down like a tonne of bricks on the miners (too bloody hard for the situations), but I hope they get the same backbone and freedom as they had then. Go in hard, knock some heads together, and get the ringleaders out!

Of all things it was this

That has summed up the riots and the class of people that are doing it.
Losers!

Yeah I'm having a hard time making sense of this as well. Seems like an excuse for hooligans to do a lot of damage for no real reason. I think there's something underlying here causing the problem. Such as a renegade religious group trying to copy what is happening in some of the arab nations.

The London riots were preceded by a peaceful protest against a shooting by the police of an armed man. Trouble makers soon got involved, as is the case with many peaceful protesters, and things started to go downhill from there. Most of those rioting were also involved in the mass looting of shops too. I honestly think this is nothing more than a symptom of the wider social issues we are facing, such as kids not being brought up properly today, and a sheer lack of respect for anyone or anything. You can go to pretty much any town or city here in the UK today, and you will find gangs of young men, women and children, who cause misery and pain for other people in their areas. This has been like this for a while now, and it's the same d##kheads who are rioting and looting now.
The riots that followed the London ones were simply more of these d##kheads trying to replicate what they had seen on the news or heard about via social networking tools. The use of social networking tools (facebook, twitter & blackberries etc.) has had quite a role to play in the trouble, with gangs arranging and orchestrating trouble by these means. There has already been one charge of inciting riot by means of social networking, and more will likely follow.
As an Englishman, I wish I could have some religious sect or terrorist to blame for the trouble, but the truth is that it shows the state the country is in with it's youth of today. It would be easier to swallow if we could blame some nutjob, but it isn't. It's kids who think it's clever to damage, steal and hurt.

I saw PM Cameron on the news today telling the thugs that there are multiple videos of them and that they will be identified.
If you're going to commit crimes, don't do it in front of cameras.

Yeah, the courts have been working 24/7 clearing the backlog of rioters/looters. The magistrates and judges are coming down hard on the rioters/looters, and rightfully so.
The BBC gave the police a file of all the images of the idiots who they caught on camera, and there have been many caught on CCTV and amateur videos too. I know the UK earned a bad reputation with some liberalists etc., in our widespread use of CCTV, and there were many who thought we were becoming a surveillance state.
The footage gained from that very same CCTV is putting criminals away en masse, and I say it's worth every penny:p: It proves that it can serve a purpose, and a damned good one too.
