Apple’s laptop line, which consists of iBooks for budget users and Powerbooks for not-so-budget conscious users, has been a hit amongst Mac fans, however many Windows users don’t want to switch to Apple’s Mac computers due to their high costs and lower speeds that Macs are operating at. Windows machines feel much faster with an Intel 3.0Ghz processor and an AMD Athlon64 processor rather than Apple’s PowerPC processors.

Apple announced a new line of Powerbook G4 notebooks with a faster PowerPC processor. The new Powerbooks will feature a 1.5 GHz processor, faster graphics performance, and a 4x SuperDrive. The company’s SuperDrive consists of DVD-R and CD-RW combination.

The 15” and the 17” Powerbooks will receive the 1.5 GHz PowerPC chip, but the 12” Powerbook will carry a 1.33 GHz PowerPC chip. The new notebooks will also have on-board AirPort Extreme wireless networking and Bluetooth capabilities for wireless connections to internet, cell phones, and personal digital assistants.

The iBooks will now carry a G4 processor with clock speeds at 1.2 GHz. Apple will allow an optional SuperDrive to those who are interested. The iBooks will also have the AirPort Extreme 54 Mbps 802.11G standard and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity options. The L2 cache has also been improved from 256KB to 512KB.

Apple is starting to produce productive laptops, at least for the Mac enthusiasts. The laptops are still not fast enough for many windows users, but the extra cache and features should benefit the Apple crowd.
