I see this going about as well as C&C Renegade did.

I didn't hate it, but it just could've been so much better. I had so much awesome in my head when it was announced, and most of it wasn't delivered on.

And they absolutely don't get what made the original so great. Oh well, the twitchy teenagers will probably like it.

A month or so ago Steam offered the entire Xcom catalog for $2.00. While I have the game already I couldn't pass that up. Steam has it all fixed up to run on new pc's with no hassle.

Yeah, I should've jumped on that. I've got Terror From the Deep from Good Old Games, which is actually the only one I've played. It was hard as hell and I never got far, but it was still fun.

I have never played X-Com, so I regret not jumping on the deal too. These reimaging/updates are such a crap shoot, and damned if you do, damned if you don't. There have been reimaging that have gone well, such as Fallout 3, and there has been reimaging that has destroyed the series, such as Shadowrun. I guess it comes down to that it is always possible it will come out well, but fans have to be open minded enough to take a chance on a shift in a beloved franchise, and developers have to make the changes for valid reasons and not just because they can.

You can still get the original for $5. It's well worth it. I'll never play all the other titles but the original is worth it.

Kotaku reported earlier today there is a new game, based on the game play from XCom, (http://kotaku.com/5518361/another-new-x+com-game-and-its-not-a-shooter) coming out later in 2010, so there may be another option. Seems like a complete update just without the name.
