I think Shen Mue 2 is the best game ever made. The story is soo great, and you cant stop playing it!I can barely wait until Shen Mue 3 will be released!

Doom 3 hehe just kidding from your other post, i think in all fairness the best game at the moment would have to be morrowind for it's sheer scale alone, the possibilites are endless in this game (that is if like me you do like rpg's that go on and on), i have that shenmue 2 on the xbox and it is really a great game but the camera control in that drove me up the wall and the voice acting was a bit hammy to say the least but a good game none the less.

TES III Morrowind and Gothic 1&2
I'd have to agree based on the amount of time I invested in each game. If I had to pick one, Morrowind would get the nod. I've played through fully twice and have been pecking away at a third round with some of my favorite mods added right from the start.

based on time played? Diablo 2, based on how good it actually is? probably TES3: Morrowind, I'm just waiting for www.wizards-islands.com to finish their mod before I played. It was supposed to be finished new year 2003-2004 but it's all the way to october and still not done. I don't care though, it will be good. I'm about to start making my good mods folder so I can just right into it.

Age of Empires 2
I agree! It was the first game I bought for my first PC way back when, and I still play it over LAN to this day. :D:

Anyway, this is a rather broad question (though having nothing to do with broads :p:) cuz there are just so many different criteria for what makes a game great, and then of course there's the type of games one likes playing, too. So what might make a scary game great might not be the same as what makes an RTS great and so on.

Yeah, I'm with you. Age of Empires 2 was the best game ever created... Too bad microsoft made it and the money didn't go to a more worthy game developer!

Microsoft didn't "make it", Ensemble Studios did.
Just like EA did not make Battlefield 1942, Command and Conquer Generals, Black and White, etc...

Best game ever made... For me it's shared by three games; Red Alert, WarcraftII and Duke3D. All had awesome singleplayer and skirmish modes as well as great multiplayer. (First games i played modem games in).

Im a huge Half-Life fan, but it was made using another engine, so Id have to say Resident Evil is the best game ever made. The cinematic feel and endless strategy involved puts it over the top. The remake for Gamecube is astounding, and the new Resident Evil 4 game coming out is going to be a ground-breaker. All new gameplay and the story line is taking a twist.

I am gonna go with UT2k4. Just so many game modes and so many good mods, I will always have that game installed on all my computers at my house.

I'd probably have to go with Baldur's Gate 2 if I were to pick just a one game. Though I might pick something more along the lines of a FPS if I still had high-speed Internet.

Darn, I would say Baldur's Gate series as well. It just sort of sticks with you well after playing it.
Another good mention is Deus Ex. It really did a great job of merging such disparate gameplay of FPS and RPG. And it had a great story with some real meaning. Too bad part 2 did not come off so well.

Hrmm... assuming the game was in its prime. Not degraded, because it is simply out of date. Also, was an original, innovative title in conception. Sure a followup might have been better, for example age of empires 2. The game conceptually is just a spinoff of a previous title and other games. Thats how i felt when i played aoe2 ...
In no particular order.
X-Com: Ufo Defense
Warlords 2
Masters of Magic
Half-Life
Blade of Darkness
Hitman 47
Morrowind
Warcraft 1
Sierra Series (LSL, KQ, SQ, etc.)
Out of this World
Ok beginning to brain fart here. Theres too many I could list that i think are potential best games ever. Everyone is forgetting the legendary games. Maybe i'm just getting old LOL
