I tried to install HL2 tonight but it tells me I don't have enough Disc space, whats up with that.
And yes, I have plenty of Disc space.

How much space do you have? How many partitions - are you sure it's installing to C:?

Lou, have you tried running the HL2 installer as admin (right click on the .exe, and run as admin)? I had some problems with HL2 when I reinstalled ages ago, and I am sure I needed to elevate the privileges for it to install.

What other programs are running? Could there be a memory conflict that is confusing Steam?

What's the source of the install - downloading from Steam or from a retail disc? I didn't have any trouble under 7 (which is close to Vista) downloading from Steam, maybe try that.

Stuart, I'm always logged on as an Admin.

Kalbrecht, Just the usual stuff, AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes.

Shiz, I'm trying to install with a retail Disc, and ya, I was thinking of just DL from Steam, but it's slower than molassas that way.

Yeah, it'd take a while, but it should work. And when it's done, you can backup the Steam install and not have to download again in the future. Otherwise my best bet is use run as admin as Stuart suggested (you need to do that regardless of your account type) or maybe compatibility mode.

You still need to manually elevate a program to run in admin mode Lou, even if you are logged in as an admin. That is unless you have opted for the program to always run in admin mode, within the .exe file's compatibility settings. It's part of the 'User Account Control' feature that is present in Vista and Win 7.

I have several games that refuse to run or install, unless I set the .exe to run in admin mode. HL2 could be falling over due to this. Worth a shot.

Call me dense, but where would I find the ".exe"

Right click the game shortcut-run as admin.

@ Mikell: The game's shortcut won't be there, as Lou hasn't managed to install the game yet.

@ Lou: Insert the disk, go to my computer, right click on the DVD drive's icon, and select open. Once in the nav window for the DVD, there should be a setup (or similarly named) icon. It's this that you need to right click and then choose run as admin.
