From IGN:

April 20, 2004 - When we reviewed Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided last year, we gave the game high marks for the use of the license. Though the game had its shortcomings, gamers got a strong sense that they were in the world of Star Wars. But while the locations and characters and quests were authentic and convincing, there was a key piece of the puzzle missing -- spaceflight.

Without that single element, any game based on the Star Wars franchise is incomplete, at least as far as fans are concerned. But later this year LucasArts will complete the picture with the release of a new expansion, Jump to Lightspeed. The new expansion offers players their first chance to jump into the seat of a number of different starfighters and seek their fortune in the vast, dark reaches of space.

The focus of Jump to Lightspeed is providing players with adventures in space. When you're flying between planets, you'll encounter all sorts of enemies, ranging from Hutt pirates to TIE fighter aces (if you're a Rebel). We're creating a number of new mission types specifically for these space adventures. It's definitely inspired everyone on the development team. We're very determined to capture the feel of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter titles. In many ways, we're looking at Jump to Lightspeed as "X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter" online.

Our goal is to fully integrate Jump to Lightspeed with the core ground game so that they are one, seamless experience. We envision a great deal of interaction between the two realms. As just an example, space is an unforgiving place to be and ships used in combat take significant damage. Players will need to return to planets often for ship maintenance and customization, to heal battle fatigue and to sell their loot from space.

Such a great idea, it's too bad the game itself is still so incredibly dull for me. Not sure that anything other than a complete re-vamping of the mission system and character development and economy would pull me back in....not sure what they mean by "later this year" either....

My friend who is going to be in the beta for SE said that the SE beta doesn't even start until may. I think this is something that could really be screwed up or it could be the most revolutionary MMO ever. I also hope that the space part isnt so good that people never come back to the main planets.

Here (http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swgalaxies_lightspeed/) Is the official LA press release which came out today. I havent read it yet, I just knew they were releasing it today so I am about to check it out now.

BTW I have gotten back into SWG (I think so atleast) and I now play test center. It is a whole different world there but I think it fits me right. I am a loner anyway so the fact that the population is very low doesnt matter to me, and being able to see content early is cool too. Also you get to play with the dev's and all the fansite owers.

m'eh still a level grind.

I'm currently in the City of Heroes beta. The idea and concept is very cool and by the looks of it should still have that cool feeling for a while. I'm still debating wether to get this or not after beta. I really like how my character looks like :p:

I dont really consider galaxies a level grind because it only takes a day or two to master the skills if you are truly "grinding"

yeah swg is kinda boring. Too easy to become very good. Hopefully swg recovers from its patch blunders
