View Full Version : Hooking Up My Xbox To My PC?

I saw a VGA adapter for the Xbox on an online games site for $55 - but what about the audio?
Has anyone ever done this? (run the xbox through their PC monitor)
I was thinking of doing it instead of buying a whole new TV for my bedroom (where I'd rather have my Xbox) but it doesn't sound like a very convenient alternative at this point.
Again just wondering if anyone has any advice or if anyone's successfully done this before? Is there a retail store that carries VGA adaptors for the xbox? (Best Buy didn't seem to have one)
I would appreciate any help!

I used to have mine going through my TV tuner but that made the video quality not so great. There are not any retail stores that carry those vga adapters that I know of. I have not used one myself but I heard they were good. Some might have audio out on the vga adapter, but some may not. You could also use the optical out on the xbox, provided you had the hookups on the PC or PC speakers.

Thanks Donj.
This is the cable i'm looking at;
XBox VGA Adapter Cable (http://www.bizrate.com/buy/noncat_prod_details__oid--15152743.html)
It apparently has outputs for your soundcard - although it would be a pain, the more i think about it, to have to unplug my monitor and speaker connections every time I wanted to play it.
Furthermore only being able to order it online makes for uncertain and inconvenient return scenarios if it didn't work properly.
ugh, guess I'm gonna just have to buy a 2nd TV...

I've heard only good things about the Enhanced VD-Z3. It has various audio options (I think) from running it through the sound card to digital output to a receiver etc. Haven't tried it though because I have a digital tv but people say it works great.

Here's a review of the original VD-Z3.

Also you don't have to re-attach and disconnect everytime you use it. There are configuration features that avoid this - switches or something. Check out the spec documents etc.

Thanks, those things are pretty cool, and tempting. I just opted for a 25" TV with s-video connector and bought the S-video/audio cable kits for my digital cable box and my Xbox.
Picture's noticeably better...
