Having followed Fable's hype for quite some time and because of the many cut features I had begun to doubt if it was going to be all that, but after spending many hours in the world of Albion I am completely enthralled with the game. It's a difficult RPG to classify and it is not easy analogizing it to other games that have come before. What amazes me is that Big Blue Box and the Carter brothers have somehow pulled off making an RPG that will appeal to both casual or first time RPG'ers and those who are veterans of the genre.
The game has beautiful aesthetics and really does allow your imagination to take hold. Fable is bit more innovative in application then I previously thought it would be and there are many layers of depth that one can ferret out. The game world is more closed in then Morrowind or Gothic yet it is broader in environmental scope then KoToR. Over analyzing Fable is pointless - it is to be experienced in its own way by each player. In some ways this is the anti-power gamer RPG (which in a SPG is a bit of an oxymoron) because no purpose is served by rushing through it. The tale of Fable is intended to be experienced in ways that will evoke many feelings and that type of immersion is the bread and butter of any good RPG. Fable without a doubt is a very good RPG but it is also somewhat different then what has come before. The developers really deserve kudos because their love for the world of Albion shines though in the player’s experience. The character that I have developed is a combat mage who was formerly scornfully dubbed Chicken Chaser but having achieved great renown with the populace is now hailed in awed tones as the Rune Master. I'm having a blast with my char and with Ninja Gaiden and now Fable, the Xbox has seen two extraordinary releases this year. Has anyone else picked up Fable yet?
