I like it so far.. forgot the name of the level I'm on.. but its at night if that means anything. The graphics on max detail is phenomenal with the exception of the ewok style treetop level which looks kinda weird with those animating trees.
The only problems I have with the game is that it uses mutants/monsters that look kinda corny though they can be a pain to fight (they take away a ton of energy) and that there is no real story at all.
Some people love the game, some say its overrated, but I think its worth the money and it looks and plays great on my 9800.

Well, I just picked it up today on sale at WalMart at lunch. I've got it loaded on my PC, patched up and can't wait to get into playing the game. Unfortuantely it looks like it will be the weekend before that happens. :(:
But, once I get some time put in on the game I'll give some feedback. Overall, I think there's more positive feedback and support for the game than negative from what I've read around the net. I hope the positive side is what I find when I finally get it fired up!

I'm about 2 levels from the end. I love the game, it's going on my "Game of the Year" list already. The only drawback I can see so far, is the lack of a "quicksave"....the latter levels can get really tough, and sometimes it's a bit frustrating having to "re-do" a chekpoint until you figure out how to get past it.
Incredible graphics
Fantastic AI
Lots of variation, both in Level Design, Opponents, and incorporating vehicles into the game.
One of the best I've played in a long time, and I feel it sets the bar for future SP FPS, including HL-2.

I have completed the game and I thought it was very enjoyable throughout!
I suggest everyone buys it right now!The Mutants are quite tricky and the way the story twists is good!

in total agreance with your take as far single player / its going to be the 1st game i've bought since q3 that i'll play the single player levals to the end .
multi-player thoe is the only draw back as yet that i have , seldom can i get a good server , ie: choppy play etc ( evan with a good ping ) & worst off the user made maps are seldom in any of the rotations & to me variety is key when on line playing , thus my love of the user made maps .
Game rocks for sure but , the multi-player needs to be addressed quickly or it could go the way of devistation as i see it .

One of the better games I've ever played...I am not into the MP shoot em' up modes - that's what UT2K4 is for - but the SP I can play over and over and over and over....it's an excellent, excellent game. The engine's a major beast and is way ahead of the hardware curve though.

Its an awsome game the graphics are great with my RADEON 9800 PRO, the online playing is also good. there will soon be an update that will allow you to quick save, you can read about it here quick saving (http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=452106891&m=389109803)

I love the game. It is probably the best pure FPS I have played since Half-Life (meaning I'm excluding hybrids like Deus Ex, System Shock 2, etc). The story isn't so great, but the levels are so huge and open-ended that the replayability value is enormous. It's one of the few games I have felt compelled to play entirely through again immediately after finishing it the first time.

Absolutely worth buying even if you are a casual FPS Action fan, if our comments weren't obvious enough. :)
It's actually a game that could stand to be improved upon quite a bit in some areas, and I'm hoping some sort of expansion/patch deal comes out later this year that addresses it's weakenesses.
Far Cry and Painkiller are two of the most enjoyable action FPS games I've played in a few years now. And PK could REALLY use a Co-op MP mode badly, what a major blunder not to include that.

I played the Painkiller demoes a bit, seemed rather pointless and repetitive... Might just be me though. I hate games without any human interaction in them.

I just picked this game up. Very cool. I am just starting it, but from the small taste I have had, i am enjoying it. Makes me really want to replace my 9600 pro with a 9800 though. The 9600 definitely chugs on this game. I have to play at medium settings to get a smooth framerate. I am waiting for the next generation of cards to come out and the price to fall on the 9800 pros a little more before Upgrading.

The game still drags a bit on my 9800 Pro at "high" settings with 4x FSAA and 4x AF, but it's still playable, just not optimized very well apparently it seems as nothing out there seems to run it very well.
Along with DX2:IW it's frustrating for these new, hyped games to run so poorly even on higher end systems, at they detail they were meant to be played at.
As for Painkiller it's "Serious Sam goes to hell" basically, it's a very impressive engine with great sound that runs smooth as silk. Not sure what you mean by "human interaction in games," but it's a straightforward run and gun carnage fest and the demo really doesn't do it much justice I've found (was turned off by the demo also). But I like the retail game much, much better.

Whelp, got an hour or so in on the game tonight. One word... awesome! Gorgeous graphics, great gameplay, good AI and just all around fun. I haven't enjoyed an FPS SP game like this in a long, long time. Well, worth the price of admission.

Realistic is a killer. Didn't quite like the bosses in the game, they were kind of weak. The battle was really in getting to them. Great game.

If you are into single player shooters, then you must play this one. I will have to say that I am having a lot of the same delightful reactions to this game that I remember from the original Half-Life series. I've still got four levels to play, and I will be sad when it ends, but; as mentioned in one of the other replies, I am already looking forward to replaying it, again, myself too.
Its not easy, and the lack of a quick-save feature forces you to explore different methods of accomplishing goals; but that, in itself, highlights the variable nature of the game and is quite delightful. It also makes the game long, and that's a breath of fresh air, too, with today's trend towards ten hour games at ridiculous prices. The nature of the game also requires that you learn and adapt, so that when you do successfully complete an objective; you really feel like you've done something. Very satisfying.
I'm playing it on a P4 2.6GHz machine with a 5900XT video card, and I did reach one level where I had to turn down the video settings for it to play properly; but, other than that one section, I've had no trouble. It is pretty, and the swaying palms, colorful birds and foliage, and waves lapping on the beach, really add to the realism of the experience. It'll have you reaching for your Pina Colada and the sunscreen. I'm just impressed.
Its not perfect, nothing is; but it has elicited feelings and reactions from me ranging from laughing out loud, to banging my fist on the table in frustration, to just standing around and saying, "Wow, ain't that pretty;" so there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that I've gotten my money's worth on this one. Even the music is nice.
With all the hype, delays, and just general BS, about Half-Life 2 and Doom III; this little game has just walked on stage and stolen the show as far as I'm concerned. If they keep making them like this, I'll keep buying them.
OK, enough talk. I'm off to Micronesia, again, to do battle against evil in paradise. Heh, heh. If I prevail, I will send a final report from the beach when I finish the game. Meanwhile, my advice is "Buy it." You won't be sorry about this one. Edward.

As far a quick save goes there may actually be a way to get it to work. After getting stuck at this one point on realistic I thought "I'm not getting killed ONE MORE TIME!! Arrrahhhh!!". In looking up cheats there appeared to be a way to quicksave, but I couldn't get it to work. God mode, max ammo, all weapons, worked fine but the quicksave didn't.
Anyone else tried it and got it to work?

Quick saving, I am pretty sure it works if you do this
run in devmode
open console
type in \save_game
you can also find some more stuff here FfarCry arena forums (http://www.farcryarena.com/forums/YaBB.pl)

This is what has worked for me...
In normal mode
Hit ~ to bring down console
Type in "save" without the quotes
Hit the Tab button
Hit the Enter button
Close console.
This has worked everytime although I read if you try to do this in the heat of battle there may be some problems. Everytime I have saved after a tough battle (or just before) it has worked like a charm

The quicksave works for me, but with a few bugs.
I added the -DEVMODE to the end of my shortcut.
Then you can use the F9 and F10 keys to quicksave and load.
Now, this only works while you are alive..... if you die, then you have to load a checkpoint first.....and then you can "quickload" when you appear.
also,..the badguys re-spawn upon a quickload....so the best use of this feature, is to allow you to make it to the next checkpoint.
I always quicksave, only after I have ducked into a corner, or closet, or empty room....somewhere that the bad guys cannot see me, so even if they respawn, I only have to deal with the ones that are directly around me, and the ones that are ahead.

I've been playing it for a little over a week and think it's it was worth the $10 it cost me, I'm a huge FPS fan and I couldn't ask for more. When I installed the game I let it choose my system settings and the only place I could see it bog down was when I was switching over to the Barret 50 Cal. And I'm running a 1333MHz AMD proc., 512DDR Ram and a GForce 3 Vid. card too boot. As for cheats, I like to finnish a game first without them and go back, choose the hardest level of play and use unlimited ammo.
Havent played MP yet and by the time I do I hope they have all the bugs worked out because it has the makings of MP greatness.

How badly does it run on your system Les?
The reason I ask is that I was thinking about picking-up a copy of Far Cry but given your specs, my brand new Alienware Area 51 Extreme is (at best) marginally better for 3D gaming.
Do you think that a slightly faster CPU and an even newer 256 MB DDR GPU will make a significant difference?

This game is one of those that raises the bar for required pc specs to run. I know some folks are running it by disabling some of the effects and it still looks pretty good. Check my profile for my specs. I have a pretty decent gaming rig and I am finding running it with 2xaa and 8xaf and all the effects enabled at high, I have to stick with 1024x768 rez. It's not so bad. It would be nice if I could crank up the rez more, but playability becomes questionable in high action combat. So I could consider lowering some of the effects in order to raise the rez, but I like eye candy. One thing I could try is disabling AA and AF to see how things look. I haven't tried that yet and I'm ok with 1024x768 even though I prefer a higher rez

Thanks Tim.
Maybe the extra CPU speed and GPU RAM will help get me over than fine line. Maybe not.
BTW, I have the exact same Viewsonic P95f+ 19” UltraBrite monitor in black for my (just recently relegated to) back-up PC and love it. It's a great value given the overall quality, reliability, long life, availability and comparatively low price.

I run the game at 1024 x 768 32bit with a PIV 2.4, 1 gig ram, 9600 pro GC and Audigy gamer sound. The in-game sound is set to EAX hardware acceleration and all visual settings are at high. Runs smooth as butter in 99% of the areas. I only had one frame rate stutter in one small area of the aircraft carrier.
Whatever they did to smooth out the code in this game and achieve the graphics quality level in-game, they sure did it right!

Ditto, to Jagndeke's post. I've got a P-4 2.6G processor, a gigabyte of RAM, and a 5900XT card, and the game ran flawlessly with the exception of one part of one level. It wasn't the carrier level, but I had to turn down my video settings to get a framerate that was usable. I'm forced to use the 1024X768 resolution, also, because I'm still using the little LCD monitor that came with my new computer. When I finish my computer room I'm working on, I will hook my big, old, Sony 21" monitor to my new computer, and then I'll really be back in business. Heh, heh. Edward.

The first thing that you'll need to do is to go here (http://forums.gamers.org/showthread.php?t=4) and read that info.
Then you'll want to post your question in the correct forum.
When posting your question, you'll need to include some information. From your post above, we have nothing to go on other than "it no work".
