As The Grind moves into its second month and beyond, it's time to examine some of the very best RPGs of this generation and last. Each week, we'll profile five RPGs that need to be a part of your library, regardless of your system of choice. Even if you think you have the definitive RPG collection, keep checking back. Who knows, you may just find a new favorite or two.

I don't have time to check the link, right now, but now that I've solved my "right-click/move forward" dillema, you can bet I'll be doing Fallout 3 before long. I'm just tickled to death to find the easy solution to that problem that I've always suspected was there.

This is a cross-thread reference to the letter and reply I sent to EA about the problem. I did get a reply to my nasty response to their worthless reply, and they said they "needed more time to evaluate my problem," so, who knows, maybe my complaint will do some good.

Meanwhile, I'll be taking a closer look at some rpg's. I love the shooters, but a good, long, rpg to have going at the same time is always nice for variety and to fill in the gaps between good fps. Life is good. Heh, heh. Edward

PS: Paula, I'm still waiting to hear you've started NOLF. Just jump in and do it, and then tell us what happens. We'll help you out with anything and everything you might have trouble with, and you can always quit it if it causes too much frustration. I suspect you are a little fearful of failure, especially after the Serious Sam experience, but the genre deserves another chance, and you just may find you like it. Shooters are not all about blood and gore and killing, and, after you force yourself to play long enough to become comfortable with the controls, they offer a level of interaction, freedom, and excitement, that you don't find elsewhere. Install it and patch it, if necessary, and then we can talk about mapping your controls and getting started.

You know its kinda funny, RPGs kinda sunk up on me. Before I got my first pc I had never even heard of them, let alone played one. The first RPG I played was Deus Ex, I thought I was just a regular FPS; little did I know it would be one of the best games I ever played and open my eye to the great world of RPGs.

Now, some 9 years later RPGs are among dome of the best games I have played on the PC.

A good topic but the article is a massive phail since there is no PC category.

Yep, this thread really should be on the Console Games board.

The first DLC content for the game makes it so that you can continue playing after you finish that main quest. If you don't want the DLC, there are mods that give you the same ability so that, like Oblivion, you can continue on after the main adventure quest is finished.

Actually, that's the last DLC, which isn't out yet. Operation Anchorage didn't add much except the simulation.

Here's hoping KoTOR (Jade Empire would be nice to see too) makes the list in the previous generations segment. Those two games got me going on the genre, though I've always stuck to the so-called "Western" games.

This thread should be on the Console Games board like Terry said, but I'll comment on the list anyway.

Most of those games belong on it as far as I know, but some of the Wii and DS choices don't really make sense. Zelda: Twilight Princess isn't an RPG and neither is Super Paper Mario, and wtf is Chocobo's Dungeon? I'm also surprised that Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 4 aren't among the DS picks. They may be remakes but they're very good ones.

Still, no western RPG fan should miss out on Fallout 3 and Oblivion. The World Ends With You is one of the best games on the DS and one of the most original games to come out in a long time, so it definitely belongs there. So does Lost Odyssey, which reminds me a bit of Planescape: Torment with a JRPG twist. Tales of Vesperia is great, though like the author says, it's pretty much impossible to find a non-used copy now.

I was hoping to read that article and see Fallout & Fallout 2...Planescape Torment and Deus Ex and System Shock 2, which was sort of a hybird I guess.

Not a failure on her part, just a simple oversight - and a rather harmless one at that.
